About this deal

I have two Preras. One of them is drop deal reliable, the other has a drying out problem. I made the mistake of disassembling the cap to clean it (it's a demonstrator and ended up spitting Dragon's Napalm under the inner cap; hideous) and I have not been able to get the finial to screw in well enough to keep a good seal. Makes me sad. If anyone has any tips for getting that flat little disk to screw in tightly, I'd love to hear them. I would prefer CON-50/CON-40 over CON-20 any time. In my opinion, a converter must show the ink level better than piston filling pens, and must be easier to clean compared to piston filling pens. The CON-20 simply doesn't meet this requirement. In fact for any of my Pilot pens that came with the CON-20, or the squeeze converter that is a bit simpler than the CON-20, I do not use them at all and immediately buy a CON-50/CON-40 replacement. As a preference, the medium nib was more to my liking because of the wider line and wetter ink flow. I know that this is a bit of a zombie post, but I would recommend adding something about how different cleaning materials might react with different pen materials (ammonia, isopropol alcohol, etc).

This is the Pilot Prera Collection Fountain Pen. It comes with a box with a clear hinged top. Inside we have the pen. This is a demonstrator style pen so you can see the inside of the pen but it comes in a few different colors where the ends of the pen are different. Gahhh, I do hear such great things about the vanishing point… The aesthetic doesn’t really appeal to me but I really should try one just because everyone says they’re so amazing! I totally agree, and I found the same with the Plumix nib in my Metropolitan. Those grips work well...in the same way that Lamy Safari and AL-Star grips do.Your Pilot pen will now have its new nib installed, and you are ready to add ink and write! As pens like the Pilot Prera do not have nib units in other sizes available for them, purchasing an inexpensive Plumix or Penmanship is an easy way to acquire a compatible medium italic or extra-fine nib for your not-so-inexpensive Prera. I have “a few”! I do prefer the solid colours (slate grey & dark brown are lovely) but enjoy the Oeste series too. I have every nib size, I think, plus a couple of home-tuned italics. I actually like the plain old medium nib best of all. The ink flow is perfect for me. Thanks for reading. The calligraphy nib lends itself to flamboyant writing styles that are not possible with a Fine point nib. Probably why I prefer a medium, oblique or calligraphy nib. Writing doesn’t have to be a chore, it can be an adventure. Post: Secure and rigid. The posting is wonderful! Pilot Prera. I Love this pen. Compact. Available in nine solid colors and seven demonstrator colors. F, N or Calligraphy Medium nib. Buy with confidence from these brands and retailers that either support the blog or I shop at personally. One might argue that the gold nibs are shaped and tipped more artfully with boundaries surrounding the sweet spot on the tipping to offer precision and control for kanji and chinese characters but smoothness suffers. The white inner cap somewhat distracts my view of the demonstrator but I think you just accept it for what it is. The steel stub/italic (?) nibs are really quite good. They are available in Plumix and Pluminix too.Unlike other fountain pens, the Pilot Capless featured a fully retractable nib. The Capless was reintroduced as the Vanishing Point in 1972. Pilot Namiki Capless One major bad point for Pilot steel nibs is that the pens do not seal inks properly and dryout happens. Of course this is also ink-dependent: Pilot Blue for example, defies evaporation. And this is no random coincidence: the ink was formulated for Pilot's own pens (steel nibs) that evaporate inks. The nib is a steel medium calligraphy point. It is plain compared to some nibs – I think it looks like a Lamy. “Pilot” is laser etched on the nib, along with the type (CM in this case) and “Japan.” It is a straight tip nib, it is not oblique, measuring 1mm across. Overall, I really like the aesthetics. Only a small issue with the inner cap liner being white and not clear. On a clear demonstrator too? Seriously? Oh well. It's a very minor complaint I have. Smoothness: This pen uses a stiff, steel nib, made by Pilot, and offers a very smooth point. Although a large part of the smoothness of a fountain pen is based on the ink used, the tip contributes quite a bit to the feel of the pen on paper. The Prera is a big winner here, with a tip that glides effortlessly across the paper.
