About this deal

When the Adeptus Astartes fight, they employ a set of combat doctrines to eliminate the enemy. After pounding the foe with heavy weapons, warriors advance to lay down a hail of bolter fire before charging forth with chainswords roaring to finish the foe.If every unit from your army has the ADEPTUS ASTARTES keyword (excluding AGENT OF THE IMPERIUM and UNALIGNED units), this unit gains a bonus (see below) depending on which Combat Doctrine is active for your army. During the first battle round, the Devastator Doctrine is active for your army. From the second battle round onwards, at the start of the battle round, you can change which Combat Doctrine is active for your army, as follows: In Boarding Actions, each player will have one or more deployment zones called Entry Zones. Each time a unit from your Boarding Patrol is set up, it must be set up wholly within one of your Entry Zones. If a unit will not fit wholly within an Entry Zone, all of its models must be set up as close to the centre of that Entry Zone as possible. If the Devastator Doctrine was active for your army during the previous battle round, you can change it so that the Tactical Doctrine is now active. So this one is really weird. Not bad, but weird. I think part of the appeal of this one might be the novelity of the models inside this box. If you missed getting your hands on the Elucidian Starstriders from previous sets this is a chance to get them. Also 20 Imperial Navy Breachers could be useful for allies in other Imperial forces — and not just in Boarding Action games, either. The Eversor Assassin is honestly kind of perfect for a close-quarters operation like a Boarding Action. This box is gonna be a weird one!

ACOLYTE units can only be taken at a unit size of 5 models and are considered to have the Troops Battlefield Role. The datasheets using AGENT OF THE IMPERIUM keyword can be found in the following Factions: Imperium: Adepta Sororitas, Agents of the Imperium, Imperial Knights, Inquisition. Models cannot target a unit that contains any CHARACTER models with a Wounds characteristic of 9 or less with a ranged weapon while that CHARACTER unit is within 3" of any of the following: Rapid fire weapons are versatile armaments capable of aimed single shots at long range or controlled bursts of fire at close quarters. Cthonian Beserks – the most heavily augmented and courageous of the Kin, they are cybernetically enhanced and have access to a variety of weapons to crush any foe.

Imperial Navy Breachers – the elite fighting troops of the Imperium, specialized in boarding actions and space combat. They are extremely versatile, expertly trained, and have access to a variety of weapons, suitable both for close-quarters and range combat. It’s nice to see the Agents of the Imperium actually getting another box, and it has a ton of models inside! Then, it only makes sense Votann grabs a box as well. Leagues of Votann Boarding Patrol The Elucidian Starstriders lead this expedition, headed up by a Rogue Trader and her coterie of specialist companions – the Death Cult Executioner, Rejuvenat Adept, and Lectro-Maester. In her service are a band of gun-toting Voidsmen-at-Arms with a faithful Canid, plus two squads of heavily-armed and armoured Imperial Navy Breachers with their robotic support units. These are sort of like small Combat Patrol boxes explicitly made to be fielded for the new Boarding Actions. So, expect them all to have a lot of foot sloggers.When you deploy an INQUISITION unit (excluding DAEMONHOST units) in an Entry Zone, you can deploy a friendly JOKAERO WEAPONSMITH unit in that Entry Zone as well. Assault weapons fire so rapidly or indiscriminately that they can be shot from the hip as warriors dash forwards into combat.

Assessment: I don’t know a lot about the Votann or what units are the best but this seems to be a pretty good deal. Firstly, you have a generic hero which means if you get multiple boxes you can covert them into other options (depending on your creativity). You also get three other kinds of units which, when you consider the Votann only have 7, non-HQ units, means you will probably have a place for each of them. Alongside the cost savings that will likely come in this box, the patrol pairs decently with the combat patrol making it a good option for new or existing Votann players. Throughout this section you will come across the < ORDO> keyword. When you include such a unit in your army, you must nominate which Ordo it is from and then replace the < ORDO> keyword in every instance on its datasheet with the name of your chosen Ordo. The Ordos available are ORDO HERETICUS, ORDO MALLEUS, ORDO XENOS and ORDO MINORIS. The Leagues of Votann are quite the surprising edition to Boarding Patrols, especially considering how new they are to the Warhammer 40,000 scene. Their addition to the new mode almost purposely coincides with their reveal last year, which caused quite a buzz.
