About this deal

The PD36R is well built. There’s nothing glaringly bad, and everything works like it should. I like the e-switch cover in particular, as I’m partial to metal switch covers. When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until the Eco mode is reached.

At “high,” the PD36R can run 1,000 lumens for 3 hours, 55 minutes. The 35R can only match that power for 2 hours and 15 minutes. Our Top Flashlight Choice: The Fenix PD36R PRO The light will step down in modes until it reaches Eco mode. Once it gets to Eco mode, the battery indicator LED will blink redWhen using the included battery, if the battery voltage drops below 3 V the torch is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until eco output is reached, at which point the battery indicator will flash red to remind you to charge the battery. Before diving into a comparison of the two companies’ products, it’s worth discussing some of the terms used to measure performance in flashlights. When a light manufacturer wants to express the light output of a device, it uses the lumen. This is usually the first number you’ll see quoted in reference to a light. The more lumens a flashlight has, the more light it emits in all directions. If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.

The light will accumulate a lot of heat when used on High or Turbo modes for extended periods. When the light reaches a temperature of 60°C or above, the light will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 60°C, it will then allow the user the reselection of High or Turbo modes. When you turn the flashlight, the battery indicator LED will light up for 3 seconds to show the battery level:

For reference, here’s a baseline shot, with all the room lights off and almost nothing hitting the sensor. Also, here’s the light with the worst PWM I could find. I’m adding multiple timescales, so it’ll be easier to compare to the test light. Unfortunately, the PWM on this light is so bad that it doesn’t even work with my normal scale, which is 50 microseconds (50us). 10ms. 5ms. 2ms. 1ms. 0.5ms. 0.2ms.In a display faster than 0.2ms or so, the on/off cycle is more than one screen, so it’d just (very incorrectly) look like a flat line. I wrote more about this Ultrafire WF-602C flashlight and explained a little about PWM too. User Interface and Operation Higher output: the APF system has made higher lumens from a forward switch possible, it breaks the limitation of current. Could you recommend a light similar to this one with internal charging capabilities, tail switch and instant access to a low light mode?A.Yes, the light is internally waterproof and is thus still waterproof without the port cover in place. This flashlight will accumulate a significant amount of heat while operating, resulting in a high temperature of the flashlight shell. Pay close attention to avoid burns. Fenix used A6061-T6 aluminum in the construction of the PD36R Pro, then coated it in premium type III hard anodizing. The fit and finish look absolutely great, as I’ve come to expect from Fenix.

The PD36R includes on-board charging, and impressively it’s via USB-C. A USB to USB-C cable is included. Simpler multi-functional tail switch: this APF technology can transmit various signal commands through a single layer within the light body. Traditional signal transmission requires a multi-layer system. Thanks to this new single-layer system, the light size can be greatly reduced and the structure will be more compact. The flashlight body has some knurling to increase grip. It’s not slippery at all. For the rest, it looks like many other kinds of aluminum torches…. ahum flashlights. C to C charging does work, but as you can see, the charging profile is a bit strange, and not at all ideal. It also takes much longer than A to C!A: The PD36R is an ultra-compact flashlight with a powerful USB Type-C charging port. Driven by a long-lasting 21700/5000mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery, the light emits a max output of 1600 lumens and 283 meters. Dual switches control five output levels and strobe for easy and fast operation. Additional featuresincludebattery level indicator, smart output memory and two-position body clip, allwhich enhance daily usage in outdoor activitiesand tactical applications.
