About this deal

This is then committed to the light's memory. This allows you to tailor the light to suit your environment. To restore the factory preset you simply remove the battery, depress the power button for a second or two, and then reassemble. Switch The remote’s Velcro strap also attached it securely, meaning I could easily change modes on the move, although I spent most of my time in mode 1 (2,100 lumens) or Boost (2,600 lumens). The Moon Meteor Vortex Pro offers a decent amount of brightness matched by some impressive burn-times. Nine mode choices could see you really stretch out that battery life too. In addition to the 1000 lumen Boost mode, there are two more steady modes – 700 lumens and 100 lumens – plus three flashing, one of which is a daylight flash. There's also an SOS mode, which is designated for emergencies only.

The Rigel Max also has an Intelligent Motion Sensing Function, which means if it detects no movement for 20 seconds it'll switch to 10 lumens; after 60 seconds it'll go to standby; and after an hour of nothing it goes into a deep sleep. The Vortex consistently charges from flat in about four hours – more than the claimed 3.4hrs – via the supplied USB C cable. That it has a yellow trim is great - it stands out from all the other charging cables, and helps you avoid taking the wrong one.

A few of our other favourites that we spotted when researching Moon Vortex Pro Front Light included, The memory function saves faff, although changing modes mid-ride is simplest with the included wired remote. Tidy folks could run the wire beneath their bar tape. Mounts You also get a wired remote control which connects to the light via the USB-C charging port. I've found that being able to change modes while keeping your hands on the hoods makes life a lot easier. I use the Ravemen PR1600 on my winter road bike, and being able to switch between dipped/high beam easily when interacting with oncoming traffic is great. The light has an IPX4 rating for weatherproofing, which means it's splashproof; you could put a sliver of silicone grease on the charge port cover and battery compartment if you wanted, but I've had no issues even in torrential rain. VLSIn my opinion, the Meteor Vortex Pro is a solidly made, affordable light with a good choice of modes and outputs, plus the ability to set five of them to suit your own requirements. On paper, the weather sealing could be better but this hasn't been an issue during testing, and a replaceable battery is a definite plus. Verdict Resistance to the weather is always a concern for use in British weather. The Meteor Vortex Pro is rated to IPX4, which basically means it'll withstand splashing water from any direction. Alongside riding with them in the rain, I also like to give all the lights I test a good soaking from the bathroom shower to replicate really heavy rain. The Moon sailed straight through with no water entering the battery compartment, lens or charging port.

Controlling the light is no different to many others, with just a single button for operation, which also displays mode and battery life. The light itself is pretty robust. The front half of the body is made from aluminium, which easily resists being dropped onto the road without issue. I would like to see a better warranty though: one year for workmanship or material defects and a mere 120 days for the battery doesn't seem long enough to me. You'll find the charging point underneath and it uses the small USB type found on most mobile phones. It's protected by a small rubber cover.

There is a charging indicator to show when the light is full, and when in use the three bars drop to two at 65% capacity, one bar at 30% capacity and then a single, flashing bar at 10%. Mount Okay, on its 450 lumens high constant setting, battery life is nothing to shout about. The 1.5hr run-time was sufficient to get me home easily, even after riding to work with the light flashing, but chances are you'll have to remember to charge it between rides. Four of the light’s six LEDs have a narrow-angle – spotlight – lens, while the two outermost bulbs on the lower row have a wide-angle lens, designed to flood light across the trail.
