I had been umming and ahhing over the Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Brightening Toner for aaaages, I have heard it is similar to Alpha H Liquid Gold, and my skin could always do with a brighten in the winter time!

Bougie has a warm reddy toned brown base, with duochrome green and blue shimmer, and you can really see the duochrome shift come to life in different lights. The matte finish is most consistent in performance and tended to perform better than the shades with some level of shimmer. The matte shades were lightly creamy to slightly stiffer to work with, and with the stiffer ones, I preferred using a brush to get the initial product out of the jar and then use a fingertip to furiously diffuse the product. The matte shades were typically semi-opaque to opaque in coverage and longer-wearing--12 to 14 hours before showing a bit of fading--but were varying degrees of blendable (related to how creamy the initial texture was). If you’re shy about wearing a lot of color on your eyes, try a dash of Bare Study on your lids paired with your favorite eyeliner, and then maybe one day if/when you felt a little more confident about eye color (but still not gung-ho), you could try layering it under neutrals like brown, beige or gray. It can be worn quite sheerly, where it becomes more of a reddy brown shade. Although the shade works nicely to brighten eyes up and does a fine natural eye look I didn’t really like the color.
