About this deal

A projection calculator is used to calculate a screen size when a projector is a specific distance away from the screen. As you move a projector Critically acclaimed for industry-leading high contrast, BenQ DLP projectors produce the most crisply defined sharpness for crystal-clear details and legible text by maximizing the fill ratio of individual pixels and employing exclusive BenQ SmartEco Technology. Countering the trapezoid effect when the projector must be placed off-center, such as simple placement on top of a table, vertical keystone adjusts the image for a professionally squared image. Keystone correction makes it simple to project ideally aligned images from a variety of locations.

Zoom Lens ring on your projector. The Zoom Range slider in the calculator will help you calculate the changes made by a Zoom Lens.

Using the Zoom Range Slider

With an outstanding brightness figure of 3000 ANSI Lumens, the TH671ST suits all types of lighting conditions. Even during daylight conditions with curtains or blinds open, the TH670 produces a watchable and detailed picture - perfect for gaming on a weekend afternoon. For optimal performance, BenQ’s LumiExpert technology detects lighting conditions and automatically adjusts the brightness to suit. Passengers is one of the more digitally-scrubbed titles I’ve seen recently. It’s a great looking disc and it shone on the BenQ. Much of the palette is metallic but the warm tones of the ship’s bar and character’s skin looked just right, natural and properly saturated. Color accuracy is still important even in the age of new technology and the TH671ST gets it right, with or without calibration. I switched to an unadjusted mode just to see and the difference was small. While I always recommend going for the highest possible quality, those who don’t chose to calibrate won’t be disappointed in the image. Vivid TV mode has a slight blue shift from neutral, which is much less of an issue than a green shift for most people, and in any case is slight enough that you're not likely to notice it without a reference image to compare it with. Performance. The TH671ST delivers usable 3D with support for DLP Link glasses only, but its 3D performance doesn't stand out from the crowd. I saw no crosstalk in my tests, and 3D-related motion artifacts are less obvious than with earlier generation 3D projectors. However they are more obvious than with most current models. The single 3D color mode is roughly as bright as Cinema mode—the least bright 2D mode—before factoring in the loss of brightness from using 3D glasses. in your room. The position of the projector in your room changes because you will need to move the projector closer or further away from the screen

BenQ recommends using High Altitude mode at 4,921 feet and above. With High Altitude on, most people will want to stay with Eco mode, which is quieter than full power mode with High Altitude off, but with a higher pitch that makes it a little more intrusive. With full power, High Altitude mode both increases volume and raises the pitch. To determine the Throw Distance for where you should place your projector in the room, enter an image diagonal measurement number in the Image Size measurement between the front of the projector lens and the surface of your wall or screen. Perfectly Long Lasting Picture Quality with DLP Projection Technology Digital Light Processing (DLP), awarded 2015 Academy Award of Merit (Oscar statuette), is the leading projection technology used in 90% of world’s digital cinemas and 100% of IMAX theaters. With DLP dominating the worldwide projector market with over 50% share, BenQ is today the #1 bestselling DLP. Treat your eyes to the brilliance of TH671ST’s Full HD 1080p visuals, with amazing detail clarity and sharpness. The bigger problem with Bright mode is the loss of gradations to the point of showing a hint of posterization in demanding images. Despite that, Bright mode with defaults is our choice for the presentation-optimized setting, even for presentations that include photorealistic images. Most people will also consider it acceptable for occasional use in, say, a family room in daytime when they absolutely need the extra brightness.

Those seeking to to improve contrast will want to experiment with the LumiExpert feature. LumiExpert detects the ambient light level and adjusts gamma appropriately for the lighting. You can also turn it off and adjust its setting to make the overall picture a little darker or a little brighter at any given ambient light level. We found that choosing the right setting can significantly increase contrast and the sense of three dimensionality in dark scenes. As an avid movie lover, Chris was unable to turn away the 50-inch Samsung DLP TV that arrived at his door one day, thus launching him irrevocably into an obsession with home theater. Dissatisfied with the image quality of his new acquisition, Chris trained with the Imaging Science Foundation in 2006 and became a professional display calibrator. His ultimate theater desires were realized when he completed construction of a dedicated cinema/listening room in his home. Chris is extremely fortunate that his need for quality audio and video is shared and supported by his wife of over 25 years. Among the TH671ST's most noteworthy features is its 1.2x zoom, an unusual extra for a short throw. Any short throw lens lets you set up the projector close to the screen for a big image in a small room—for example, small apartments or dorm rooms. But a zoom lens adds convenience and offers greater flexibility of placement, letting you adjust the zoom, rather than move the projector, to match the image to the screen size. This is particularly welcome for portable use, where moving from one location to another means having to set up the projector each time. Portability is also enhanced by surprisingly robust audio for such a small projector. The TH671ST’s menu system is just like the one I’ve encountered on many previous BenQ projectors. If you want to avoid the detailed settings, just choose the Basic version which only gives you, well, the basics like input selection, picture modes, and the like. Tweakers and videophiles will want to choose Advanced for full access to all the calibration controls and features.is still a thing with some enthusiasts and BenQ always provides a good experience. The TH671ST is a little brighter than most and that just makes it all the better. Upon putting Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs in the player, the projector switched immediately to its 3D picture mode. This CGI animated feature is simple in texture but abounds with bright saturated colors. I never wanted for more contrast and the depth effect was clean and clear with no ghosting artifacts or motion blur. DLP is still my favorite technology for watching 3D and BenQ doesn’t just include it as an afterthought.

Lens offset. The lens offset for the TH671ST is designed for placement on a low table, with the bottom edge of the image falling somewhere between the lens centerline and up to 5% of the image height above it. For example, with a 100-inch high image the bottom edge would be anywhere between even with the lens centerline and 5 inches above it. The bottom edge of the image on our test unit was about 4% of the image height above the centerline, which is within typical sample-to-sample variation. TH671ST maximises thrills in minimal space, requiring as little as 1.5m to project stunning 100” pictures. The shortened throw enables carefree enjoyment without space constraints or setup hassles.LumiExpert is something I had not seen before. It works with an ambient light sensor on the chassis’ top and adjusts gamma on the fly according to your room’s lighting. In my test, it had a very subtle effect but I found better quality in my totally dark space with it left off. You can adjust the amount of compensation with a six-position slider. Chris' passion for audio began when he took up playing the bassoon at age 12. During his third year at the New England Conservatory of Music, he won a position with the West Point Band where he served for 26 years as principal bassoonist. He retired from the Army in 2013 and is now writing full time and performing as a freelance musician in Central Florida. Impressive as the BenQ TH671ST is in 2D, it's only when you take advantage of the optional 3D system that the picture becomes truly immersive. Just add the optional BenQ 3D glasses, connect up to a suitable source and enjoy 3D images that are every bit as bold as at the cinema. Zoom Lens Light Loss. The 1.2x zoom isn't large enough to curtail brightness significantly at the telephoto end of the lens. You can safely ignore the potential light loss when choosing how far to put the projector from the screen.
