About this deal

The MeacoDry Arete One is Meaco’s quietest dehumidifier to date. It’s available in a range of capacities from 10 to 25 litres, and can remove up to 14 litres of moisture a day. Desiccant dehumidifiers tend to have lower listed capacities than refrigerant. This doesn’t mean they should be ignored though, as they are far more effective at removing water in cooler conditions. For example, at temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius or below, a desiccant dehumidifier with an 8 litre/day capacity may extract significantly more water than a refrigerant model with a higher listed capacity. Our Extended5 Year Warranty from Buy It Direct gives you the reassurance that if an electrical or mechanical fault arises you won't be exposed to costly repair bills. Our dedicated technical team will take care of your dehumidifier. The running costs of a dehumidifier varies depending on its power rating, the mode you use, and your energy tariff. As we all know, energy prices have gone up rapidly during 2022, and this looks likely to continue in the future, so you’ll need to adjust the numbers for your own tariff and the current energy prices.

The quietest models produce slightly less than 30 decibels of noise, which is equivalent to the volume of a whisper. You might be considering tumble dryers, a household staple. However, tumble dryers are one of the most expensive appliances to run in your home.Overall, it's not the most powerful dehumidifier you can buy, and it can't cope with high moisture levels – we found it made little difference when drying wet washing for example. However, it did a great job of clearing condensation on windows and managing moisture levels in a small bedroom when left running overnight. All dehumidifiers have an intake fan to draw moist air in and an exhaust fan to expel dried air, and some models have a compressor that extracts the moisture. Each of these components makes a noise and the positioning of them can affect the overall noise level, as can the fan speeds. Keep in mind that these numbers are only a guide. As we’ve discussed, there are other factors that affect the effectiveness of a dehumidifier, including the type (desiccant models tend to have lower listed capacities but are more effective in cooler conditions) and temperature of the environment. Most dehumidifiers fall between the two. Refrigerant models often have larger capacities of 10-20 litres per day. Desiccant models usually fall in the 7-12 litres per day range. Dehumidifier Size Recommendation Chart

Because we understand how important the views of real people are, we always seek recommendations from the Mumsnet forums to ensure the information we give you is based on unbiased, trusted opinions from those who have bought the products themselves. Expert opinions If you’d like to control the moisture in your home effectively, there are lower-powered modes and a super-quiet mode that still draws an impressive amount of moisture out of the air. Peltier dehumidifiers also cool the air and condense the moisture content into water, but they do it using a cold heat-sink rather than a compressor. They’re not as effective as compressors, removing smaller amounts of water in a given time, but they’re quieter and more energy-efficient. Peltier dehumidifiers tend to be compact, lightweight units designed for smaller spaces. All that said, the Russell Hobbs RHDH2002 20L dehumidifier still impressed our review team during testing. So, if you’re looking for a powerful dehumidifier with a cheaper upfront cost, the Russell Hobbs RHDH2002 20L is well worth considering. And whilst its energy use is low compared to many dehumidifiers on the market, it can't beat the super energy-efficient MeacoDry Arete One in this regard. The Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy dehumidifier uses 220W, whereas the comparable MeacoDry 12L Arete One uses just 151W of energy, and doesn't cost that much more upfront at full RRP. The MeacoDry also offers a built-in air purifier, a larger 2.5L water tank, better laundry drying performance, and quieter operation.

The advantages of this type of dehumidifier are that they tend to be larger, more energy efficient and much more widely available. The problem is that they don’t work well in lower temperatures as the coils need to be colder than the room, or they start to freeze. Once that happens, a compressor dehumidifier focuses on de-frosting itself over reducing humidity, so they aren’t a great option for garages or cellars. They also tend to be much noisier, and depending on your noise-level preference, this can irritate people. Should you leave a dehumidifier on all the time? If you’re pulling out 15 to 20 litres per day, the dehumidifier needs to have a tank with the capacity to handle it or you will be emptying it out every few hours. Three litres is the absolute minimum, while five or six litres will give you a bit less emptying to do. Is there anything else worth looking out for? There are a few key things you need to consider when shopping for a dehumidifier, and various features you need to weigh up the importance of in terms of quality. Here are the sort of things you should be looking at when considering the best dehumidifier for your needs: Don’t get too excited about any claims of silent running – we found that, while actively dehumidifying, it puts out around 50dB on all of its three settings, so you won’t want to sit and watch the TV while it’s on. However, it’s a good performer for its size, reducing humidity in a damp-prone living room by 9% in the first hour and by nearly 22% within two hours. The laundry function’s quite effective too, helping dry your washing indoors without adding a layer of condensation to the windows. And at 9kg it’s light enough to take from room to room, making this a great dehumidifier for the average flat or small to medium-sized home.Continuous-drain facility Many dehumidifiers allow you to connect a hose and flush the collected water away to a low-level drain. This will save you having to empty the water tank, or prevent the machine from getting full and switching off if you're not around to empty it. Note that dehumidifiers with this function often don’t come with a hose in the box, so you’ll probably have to buy it separately. This data is based on running the dehumidifier for 12 hours a day at the listed wattage. If you only need to run a dehumidifier for 2-4 hours per day, which is common once a baseline humidity has been established, the energy costs (per day or week) are likely to be lower. If you need to run the dehumidifier for 24 hours per day until the humidity is brought down, then the costs will be double.

What is great about this dehumidifier, though, is the fact that the modes are so easy to choose. There is a dial on top to adjust the power and a switch to go from eco-mode to power mode. This will mean you have to empty the 1.8 litre capacity tank frequently though, and this extraction rate is unlikely to be maintained except in very damp buildings. Just like the MeacoDry Arete One, as well as an impressive extraction rate the Russell Hobbs RHDH2002 20L dehumidifier has some great features, including an easy-to-read LED screen that displays current humidity levels and a useful Smart mode that monitors the humidity levels for you, turning the dehumidifier on and off as soon as it rises above the recommended home humidity range between 45%~55% for more economical (and hassle-free) use. There's also auto-shut off functionality when the water tank is full. There's also plenty of useful functionality on the models. The automatic Smart Humidity Mode works perfectly and is hassle-free, turning the dehumidifier on when moisture-levels rise and automatically shutting the appliance off when the desired humidity is reached so there's no wasted energy or expense. And in our tests, the Arete One reduced moisture levels in damp-prone rooms in a very short period of time.
