My take on this: while it looks like the wear on the graphite pads doesn't cause the drift issues, it will at some point, because that's how normal controllers start to drift.

Although there has been a mixed response to the news that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year, many have been waiting to buy the exclusive Joy-Con. Sure, I get it, it's not strictly a deal, but some folk really want these. While the trailers only showed the motion controls for Joy-Cons and handheld mode, Skyward Sword HD is compatible with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Joy Con Grips as well!

The Skyward Sword Joy-Cons feature both HD Rumble and motion controls, like all other Joy-Con models. While the now familiar design of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons has not seen any major changes to design, these are some of the most stylish ones to be produced by Nintendo yet, thanks to the neat Legend of Zelda designs. Make sure to stop by Beedle’s shop, but keep an eye on the troublemaking Groose... TLDR: the fix is a great way to increase the lifespan of your Joycon if it already has drift but is not an optimal fix for Nintendo.
