Monitor Audio’s popular Bronze speaker range, now in its sixth generation, makes for a particularly good case study. We briefly heard the new Bronze 100 as part of the Bristol Hi-Fi Show 2020, our first impressions of which are documented in our Monitor Audio Bronze 100 hands-on review. We expect to have review samples very soon. Monitor Audio Bronze 50 is made of MDF. It uses braces throughout the enclosure to minimize any resonance or vibration that may affect the sound. The choice of four modern finishes and stylish contrasting baffle give the Bronze 50s a superior appearance and ensure they will complement the décor of any room. Should you prefer to have the speakers mounted on the wall, there’s an option to do so utilising the rear fixing point and FIX-M speaker mount.For surround or rear speakers, place them 5-7’ above floor. Since it has port in the rear side, you need to keep some space from the wall allowing the speaker can breathe. There is no option for wall mounting. Klipsch R-51M has great imaging and dynamics. It is a powerhouse; the cost is reasonable and it is word buying.

The great space on the soundstage also meant that the Monitor Audio designs offered improved instrumental separation. That is, you heard gaps between instruments. Because of that, you tended to hear detail around the edges of instruments. Where and how they started and stopped. This precision enhanced the overall clarity from the speakers as a whole. This set of speakers is ideal for new music producers and DJs.The Bronze 100 speakers added both strength but they also revealed more frailty when required because there was always the opportunity to provide a contrast between the strong and the weak. The Bronze 100 speakers, in other words, had a greater musical vocabulary to explain the music in basic terms. The 50s did a great job but they gave you more of an outline when compared to the 100s. The 100s entered into more depth. So that means a new Uniform Dispersion Waveguide which combines with a C-CAM 25mm Gold Dome Tweeter. Spanning 376 x 231 x 325mm, these 8 Ohm speakers weigh in at 7.8kg. At 87db you’re looking at a powering it with an amplifier of 30W or higher. SOUND QUALITY Speakers at this level have a difficult job. They have to be unfussy enough to sound good with micro systems while at the same time having enough transparency to make the best of pricier mid-priced electronics. That’s a tough balance that Monitor Audio has traditionally managed well.The driver material is chosen in such a way that it produces natural sound quality. Beside the drivers there is a single bass port in each speaker. This means you can place it very close to walls without worrying about bass performance. It can produce detailed and balanced sound. Voices are loud and clear. The Bronze 50s, despite their own excellent presentation, don’t have the same tonal balance as the Bronze 100s.
