But there's a decision to make if you're thinking of buying a golf watch: invest in a dedicated golf watch – or buy a smartwatch with GPS (and an App Store), such as the Apple Watch SE or Galaxy Watch 4.

The Garmin has a Big-Numbers mode which, coupled with the sunlight-readable dial, is great for those whose eyesight maybe isn’t what it once was. Buying the ION Edge also gives you access to Bushnell's excellent GPS app, which provides 3D hole flyovers and the ability to add in stats about your play, enhancing the value for money. The watch itself is also lightweight and compact, a big improvement on previous Bushnell GPS watches which have been a little chunky, which means that it is unobtrusive on the course whilst playing. It's not totally bereft of features. You get a shot measuring tool, scoring on the wrist, a more rudimentary green view.
