About this deal

This is a relatively lightweight piece of garden equipment that can be easily folded away in between uses. This WORX WG779E.2 review is not complete if we don’t mention its cutting diameter. The cutting diameter of this machine stands at 34 centimetres, making it ideal for lawns with medium size. That is why it is perfect for cutting narrow strips in your garden. Grass Box Besides, you can replace the blade after serving you properly, and the installation process of a new blade is as easy as ABC. What I really like about the WORX WG779E.2 is the addition of a removable safety key that disables the lawn mower to help prevent accidental starting. This is a nice feature not found on similar cordless mowers that gives peace of mind around children. The key has a cord that is attached to the handle so making it almost impossible to misplace. As we have mentioned, the WORX WG743E.1 features a hefty cutting width of 40cm which makes it ideal for larger lawned areas, but will make just as easy work of a smaller lawn.

As with all cordless lawn mowers, not being tethered by the cord not only makes it easier to mow the lawn, but safer, quieter and more environmentally friendly. When you need a mower that’s light in weight and going to get in the smaller areas of your lawn, this may well be the best option for you. Yes it will take longer to mow the entire area, but if it fits and there’s no rush, then the WG779E.2 could be the cordless mower of choice. The noise level is relatively low compared to other mowers on the market. The motor produces a gentle hum, which is much less jarring than the sound of a petrol mower. This makes it a more pleasant experience for the user and any nagging neighbours within earshot. No specific noise-reducing features are built into the mower, but the cordless technology replaces any typically whirring engine. Durability The grass box does come with a indicator flap to show you when the grass box is full, this is a nice handy feature from WORX. The blades on this model offer a generous 40cm cutting width which means that your efficiency is going to be handsomely improved, this is especially important on larger lawned areas or those that require a little more attention after winter, for example. For example, the 20mm setting is one of the lowest settings on any mower, meaning an incredibly close cut to the lawn. While it is recommended to use this setting all the time, people that mow frequently during peak growing season can use this setting to produce a neat and tidy cut close to the ground, like on an ornamental lawn. Of course, the cordless design means that you’ll no longer have to avoid mowing over the cord which, as we know, only serves to get in the way and often poses a safety hazard. Safety Features After giving the WORX WG779E.2 cordless lawn mower a thorough testing on my lawn, I’m well impressed with its performance. This mower is lightweight yet robust, making it a breeze to manoeuvre around landscaping and use for the full mowing session. Its build quality feels rather sturdy for the price point. As mentioned before, you can use Turbo or Eco modes to cut your lawn. I have used both and find the Eco mode is sufficient for regular summer cuts. I think I might need Turbo for the first cut after winter and would use it for cutting meadow-like lawns. Having not tested this mower on wet grass, I can't say how it performs, but based on the first mow (of a rather unruly lawn) I don't think it will struggle too much. Also, there is absolute convenience working with this machine because you won’t be struggling with a heavy mower. It is environmental-friendly, quieter, and safer with low maintenance costs. With a properly-positioned large central handle, you won’t have issues carrying this 13kg lawnmower to the shed or garage. Safety Features

I really struggled with this mower to find any downsides. The features are great and all seem to work well for a mower at this price point. The build quality cannot be faulted and it performs as it should. Having the choice to go between various heights is big advantage for people looking to achieve a healthy and vibrant lawn, as you can easily adjust the heights to accommodate the lawn’s condition throughout the year, whether it’s short, long, or somewhere in-between. Usability Do you like a striped lawn? Well the WORX does have a roller at the rear that gives that lovely striped look to your lawn. The roller also has suspension allowing it to adapt better to the contours of your lawn. This is another advantage over the Flymo 300 – if you like striped lawns that is!It isn’t as compact as some cordless mowers and doesn’t fold as neatly as the fantastically foldable Flymo EasiStore 340R Li. However, you can still relax the bolts on the top half of the handle and fold it over the lower half for storage. At roughly 12kg in weight, it’s also an easy mower to heft around: just grab the chunky orange handle in the centre and you’re good to go.

The WORX WG743E.1 is an excellent option if you’re looking for a diverse lawn mower, and this is all thanks to the variable height adjustments that it offers. This again does not necessarily put it ahead of competitors but it’s good that WORX have taken advantage of what is clearly the most effective cutting system in the market. I expected it to panic when it came to longer grass or wilder patches but the WG730E surprised me by making headway through all but the roughest or wettest stuff. What’s more, there are some advantages to its size, as I was able to get closer to hard surfaces such as fences or house walls, or move it into spaces near to shrubs where it’s normally hard to fit a larger mower. Another great feature of this mower is an easy to see battery gauge on the top of the mower; you would think this is standard with all cordless mowers, however, this is not the case. Well done WORX for including this! The Worx WG779E.2 is a well-built, sturdy mower designed to last. My only gripe would be that the cutting blade may need replacing after a certain amount of use, but this is a standard maintenance requirement for most mowers, and it’s easy enough to do yourself or take it to a professional. Additionally, you may need to replace the batteries more often if you’re using the mower frequently or in particularly tough conditions (such as on hilly terrain or in wet weather). WORX 40V WG779E.2 VerdictThe cutting diameter of the mower may seem a little on the small size with only a 34cm mowing capability. Now, compared to its counterparts with widths of up to 43cm, this might be a potential disadvantage; however it could also be beneficial if it’s to be used in smaller areas and lawns with narrow strips. Also the power system is completely electric so it produces zero emissions and works extremely quietly. Which is quieter? Well there’s not much between them but I would say that the WORX is slightly quieter due to the “Mute technology” that WORX claim makes their mower barely audible from 10 metres. The 30cm cutting width isn’t huge, so this mower is at its best on smaller lawns and preferably well-treated flat ones, as a lot of lumps and divots can affect the regularity of the cut. One of the most notable things about the WORX WG743E.1 is the generous grass collection box which holds up to 45 litres. Like many cordless lawn mowers, the WORX WG779E.2 is powered by two Lithium-ion batteries (40V in total) and electrical motor which will charge in around 2 hours. The batteries are removed from the mower for charging and storage.

WORX batteries are covered by a 1 Year Limited Consumer Warranty and are not eligible for warranty extension. The battery power indicator will give you a clear idea of how much juice you have left, so that you’ll never run out unexpectedly. The handle folds away for easy storage so it won’t end up taking up masses of space in your shed or outbuilding. Furthermore there are two feet at the rear of the mower allowing you to store this product vertically, saving even more space. At 34cm the steel cutting blade is suitable for small and medium lawns, although we think it works best in smaller areas up to 200m2. The blade is premium quality steel that is razor sharp, producing a pristine cut that leaves the grass looking good while encouraging healthy regrowth. For example, the easy-start feature is far more preferable to the pulling/recoil method of the petrol lawn mower which, if you’ve ever used you will know, can be a nightmare and often painful to start. The easy-on safety switch works like a charm. WORX WG743E.1 User Manual The Worx WG779E.2 34cm lawnmower uses two 2.0Ah 20V batteries simultaneously for extra power and runtime. With intellicut technology, the mower adjusts its speed and power to grass condition therefore providing constant cutting power. Six height settings give you the cut you want, all with the ease of a single lever cutting depth adjustment. Intellicut technology adjusts speed automatically with different grass conditions so it keeps consistent cutting efficiency in dense grass. The Worx WG779E.2 comes with a dual charger and two 20V batteries. Depending on where you buy it, these batteries will be either 2.0Ah or 4.0Ah and we were supplied with the 4.0Ah battery pair. Both will result in the same power, but the 4.0Ah battery will mean you can work at high power for longer.
