About this deal

The Canton DM 75 is a soundbar that offers a powerful audio experience with its 2.1 channel output and a RMS rated power of 200W. It is equipped with audio decoders such as Dolby Digital and DTS, ensuring high-quality sound reproduction. The soundbar features a crossover frequency of 3000Hz, providing a balanced distribution of frequencies for optimal audio performance. Let me first describe the problem, then tell you about my setup and then describe my awful experience with Samsung tech support!!! I’m satisfied with this soundbar especially with Atmos, the heights are really good and you can hear the separation it’s not to front heavy especially when you have the rears which is a must when watching 7.1 or Atmos. DD 5.1 is decent as well the soundbar can create a faux virtual Atmos sound which gives great atmosphere. I had a Samsung MS650 before and the SK10Y has a much wider sound, the only thing I wish it had was a little higher and balanced centre volume for voices, even after the update, because the music and effects can get loud compared to people speaking, also I wish they update to DTS X but that looks like not happening since the new models this year are having them.

The 6 driver DM55 is the smallest of a range of soundbases from Canton, an established and well respected German brand. The 55 stands for 55cm (width). They also do a DM75 (8 drivers ) and DM100 (10 drivers) at 75cm and 100cm wide respectively with higher specs. A key feature for music lovers is Bluetooth 4.0 with apt-X, which allows CD-quality streaming from mobile devices. You’ll also find on-board Dolby Digital decoding and DTS TruSurround, DTS’s processing technology for soundbars and TVs. Atmos sound bars are still expensive but I’m guessing like OLED it will come down in price every year and become the norm, right now you have to pay a premium or either buy an AVR system but that isnt practical with some users who want less wires and hassle.Credit for this beefy sound should go to the quartet of downward-firing 100mm woofers inside the box. They add depth and punch to the effects that need them, such as the Trolls’ thumping footsteps and their booming voices. The rhythmic rumble of the kettle drums in Howard Shore’s excellent score also sounds huge, injecting the scene with urgency and gravitas. We doubt you’ll need an external sub. As with streamed music, the bass can be a bit unruly at times – when Sly Stallone remotely blows up his own helicopter I hoped for a smooth LF tidal wave washing over me, but got something less distinct – and even the dedicated Voice mode doesn’t reach down far enough to give any extra clarity to Sly’s ultra-low oscillations. Personally I would say voices are a bit low when watching any lossy Dolby digital 5.1 than say watching anything with Atmos which is well balanced and sounds clear, and is clearly the strongest part when using this soundbar, also stereo has good balance.

Once again Canton has shown the rest how it’s done with a soundbase that delivers an unusually powerful and refined performance. It’s every bit as impressive as the DM50, perhaps even more so, offering crisp sonic detail, dynamic midrange, excellent scale and commanding bass – the sort you simply don’t expect from such a slim box. The inclusion of Bluetooth apt-X is a huge bonus. But the DM100 isn’t all about that bass. First-class mid-range and treble reproduction lends impressive clarity and vigour, heightening the excitement when the action hots up. The snap of gunfire is fierce but never coarse, plus every scene is teeming with incisive top-end detail. Canton’s DM 50, reviewed last year, is perhaps best used with TVs around the 48in mark; the step-up DM 75 on test here supports screens up to 60in (or up to 40kg in weight). Bigger screens need a bigger sound and the DM 75’s roomier cabinet should provide the extra oomph you’re looking for. If you are looking to improve on sound from your TV but don't want all the wires and clutter of a surround sound system then a soundbase is the obvious choice. The DM75 also features a cleaverly designed larger chassis to suit larger screen sizes as some people may have been put off at the fear of it being dwarfed by a large screen. All of the issues do the exact same thing on my daughters tv so it can surely only be the soundbar as that's what the devices are connected to?? I've tried three full sets of hdmi cables in addition to two separate TV's and still have the same input issues. The bar is running the latest firmware and I've also reset it.

Conclusion

If you own a whopping great TV and want to boost its sonic potential, there aren’t many better ways of doing it than the DM100. With its immense power, gorgeous detail and snappy dynamics, it’s the closest you’ll come to a proper home-cinema experience without buying a receiver and 5.1 speakers. There are a few minor sonic issues, but nothing that can’t be ironed out with a little tweaking. Elsewhere on the spec sheet is apt-X Bluetooth and a new Bluetooth select function that automatically switches to Bluetooth when it detects an audio signal. It’s more useful than it sounds. You’ll also find lip sync and dynamic range control adjustments. These functions can be accessed by holding down either the ‘play mode’ or ‘sound’ buttons – use the volume keys to turn them on and off. The three-digit setup menu is predictably basic, but you’ll get used to it.

I went for the LG for ascetics and ease of use with my LG B8, no handshakes issues yet with any devices unlike the Samsung MS650 I had. It maybe not the best reviewed or top of class, that probably goes to the n950, but it’s good enough for my environment and I’ve had zero connectivity issues with my devices. But it’s not just the power of the DM75’s bass that impresses but also its seamless integration and agility, which means there’s no booming or overhang to pull you out of the moment. If something isn’t quite to your liking, it can easily be fixed using the bass, treble and EQ settings.Constructed with top-quality materials, the soundbar ensures durability and reliability over time. Its sleek and compact design allows for easy placement and integration into any home entertainment setup.
