About this deal

Push the pipe into the fitting with a slight twist ensuring the pipe can be felt passing through the grip ring and then the O ring. This will be felt as a slight resistance as it passes through each when inserting the pipe Tested to high standards - ISO 17885 for Water Applications, AS/NZS 4129, ISO 7/1, BS 21, DIN 2999, UNI 9561, NEN 3258, AS 1722, DIN 8076 So, as said above, use a sharp cold chisel or even a wood chisel you don't mind messing with, or anything like that such as a flat-bladed screwdriver, and work all around the cover's joint with the pipe. Use LOTS of gentle taps with a hammer rather than a few massive wallops - ok, it ain't going to break, but, well, chust to be sure it don't...

Lead used to be used fairly extensively in plumbing but once the potential health risks associated with lead were understood, moves to change to alternatives were made. Nowadays lead is not allowed to be used for drinking water or, to use its formal description, potable water. However, old lead pipes still exist in many buildings. If you have an old lead pipe, the best solution is to remove it and replace it with copper. But, this is not always practical or possible. There may be situations where you need to make a connection to a lead pipe. You may have a leaking joint or fitting, or there may be an old lead pipe that needs to be capped off. These couplings are designed to join MDPE pipe with MDPE, PVC, ABS copper, stainless steel, galvanised iron, or lead pipe. The TALBOT GRIPPA universal adaptor is an easy to use universal fitting that connects onto a wide variety of existing lead, galvanised iron and copper pipes withoout the need to change any components. The adapters areSlide a pair of extractors (plastic or metal) in between the pipe and fitting and pull the pipe from the fitting Talbot Push fittings have an internal grip ring and O ring. As water pressure increases behind the rings the strength of the grip and seal increases in line with the pressure. A common difficulty with this fitting is establishing the size of the lead pipe so that the correct connector can be bought. Lead is generally referred to by weight as well as diameter. So, you will find the following sizes: Ab, you managed to remove the two bolts on the inspection cover? Cool - that's the hard bit done. The cover will be held by paint, most likely, or a thin 'rust' bond, but nothing serious. Universal couplings are pre-assembled and ready for use. Simply insert your chosen pipe into the fitting and tighten the nut. The UTC ends contain hard stainless steel gripping teeth which provide superior end load resistance.

Replace grip ring by forming a figure 6 to reduce the diameter and insert it into the fitting the same way round as the old one was removed Philmac says that their Universal Transition Coupling can be used on a live pipe but wherever possible it is easier (and drier) to switch off the water and drain down first. Examples of Use of Lead to Copper FittingsOur compression universal coupling fittings are available in sizes from 15-21mm x 20mm to 59-61mm x 63mm. This PLASSON Plass4 universal coupler is designed to make a straight connection with metric MDPE and any metric PE/uPVC/copper/lead/galvanised steel pipe. Includes liner for MDPE.Able to withstand working pressures of up to 10bar, this WRAS approved product is suitable for use in systems conveying water and other fluids in urban and inter-urban infrastructure, industrial, mining, landscape and farming, as well as optical fibre duct systems. Do you think you are up to replacing all that lead pipe at some point? If so, I think you'll find it's fixed into that cast connector using mortar or similar, so that will need lots of gentle chipping away too, and try to avoid any of it falling inside that pipe. Remove the grip ring from the fitting and dispose (Important – note which way round the grip ring is inserted) Now, tighten the nut with a wrench. Hold the body of the fitting with a second wrench to prevent it turning. This fitting will need to be done up very tight to ensure that the O ring seals against the lead pipe and that the gripper ring is moulded to the pipe shape fully. The friction ring prevents over tightening and crushing or misshaping the pipe out of shape.
