About this deal

NB. As well as those album stats, the two box sets, Toyah Solo (March 2020), and The Humans: Noise In Your Head (July 2020), both entered a number of the Official Charts, including Sales and Independent. Originally released as a VHS video in 1981, capturing Toyah at the very peak of her early ’80s triumphs, fans have been calling out for a digital equivalent for years now… and finally it’s here.

Featuring the original 12-song concert film released for the first time ever on DVD, much requested and sought after by fans for decades

Acoustic versions of the classics Angel & Me, Brave New World and Good Morning Universe feature from an intimate Toyah concert at Trading Boundaries in 2018. The newly remixed and remastered audio has been integrated to the concert for an enhanced viewing experience. All audio remastering was approved by Joel Bogen.

The gig was broadcast live on BBC2 – and simultaneously in stereo on BBC Radio 1 – on The Old Grey Whistle Test– introduced by Radio 1/ TOGWT legend, Annie Nightingale – as their annual Christmas Eve concert for 1981, in a schedule that also included everything from a festive All Creatures Great & Small, to an episode of Russell Harty At Home. The Pebble Mill 6.55 Special from August 1982 includes Toyah’s performance of the re-worked Dawn Chorus and Ieya. This special inclusion includes a full un-broadcast minute of the Ieya performance, not seen due to running over the allocated programming schedule. Celebrating the much-loved February 1981 concert at North London’s legendary Rainbow Theatre, this hotly anticipated release marks the first time ever the concert film has been issued on DVD, following an early 1980s release on VHS and laserdisc. Simultaneously, it is the first time ever the audio, recorded on the Rolling Stones’ Mobile Unit, has ever been officially released. One of the most long-awaited titles by Toyah fans finally comes home this November. ‘Toyah Live At The Rainbow’ will be released on CD+DVD and aqua-blue transparent vinyl LP by Cherry Red Records on Friday 25 November 2022.

Tracklist

The previously unreleased concert audio is released here for the first time ever on vinyl and features 16 songs of which four were not previously heard on the original VHS release. Restored exclusively for this release, these are ‘Bird In Flight’, ‘Mummies’, ‘Computer’ and ‘Love Me’. A 30-minute edit of the gig was aired by the BBC in 1981 and a 55-minute version was released on BBC video and laser disc. Neither of these included the full set-list of songs played at the gig:
