Right: Kit includes metal maintenance stand bars, which can be used together with the battery holder to lift the car. The Hotshot and the Super Hotshot are nearly the same build, so I'm only including details on the differences here. Please see myWe offer Tamiya Super HotShot Spare Parts at discount price! Replacement Parts, Upgrade Parts, Option Parts also available. The new roll bar is positioned higher to ensure a raised pilot position for greater realism. To achieve this, the upper frame is also updated. It’s for these types of reasons that, today, it is one of the most beloved Tamiya R/C designs ever. It has even been credited with inspiring one man to collect what is, probably, the world’s most massive private collection of R/C models (word has it that the German collector profiled on that article began his collection after first witnessing one Hotshot, then buying multiple vintage Hotshot kits, and later, buying up thousands of cars of all kinds).

The final front gearbox is quite slim and compact. The outer profile of the housing is quite complex because it will form the basis of the front suspension attachments and provide the structural support to the main chassis. The right hand image shows the finished front and rear gearboxes which, while almost the same on the inside, look completely different on the outside. With its aggressive-looking body design and low center of gravity, the Hotshot, Tamiya's first shaft-driven 4WD R/C buggy, made waves when it was introduced in 1985. The Hotshot lineage persisted for a long time. The upgraded 58054 Supershot came out in 1986 followed by the 58062 Hotshot II in 1987. The original Hotshot was re-released in 2007 as set 58391 which is the version I was able to acquire. There was also a 1/12 scale version in the GB-03 Tamtech Gear line released as 56711 the same year. A number of other models used the same chassis or a derivative thereof. Fans around the world have been clamoring for more re-releases of classic Tamiya R/C carsand Tamiya has indeed been listening. The eye-catching Hotshot 4WD buggy, which was originallyreleased in the 1980 s and helped popularize the R/C hobby, now makes a return with it s timelessbody shape matched with updated improvements to let both old and new R/C fans enjoy excitingoff-road action.

GENERAL

As always, this blog won’t delve into the later re-released Hotshot kit with it’s numerous changes, omissions and upgrades – instead I’m just focusing on the original 1980s model in all it’s pure, unmodified 1980s glory!) However, it’s just not the pure 1980s Hotshot experience unless you burn your fingertips once in a while, or see one of those resistors literally explode from heat once they’ve become old and worn out :) Running repairs are half the fun of vintage R/C toys! They are almost identical in terms of build, they're almost the same chassis. The Hot Shot has rather cool rear suspension linkages, funky collars for setting the springs and you have the roll cage and netting to assemble which is really cool, but the Boomerang has a better steering setup assembly and twin rear dampers. The Hotshot looks much cooler, but the Boomerang is a better runner out of the box with better dampers/springs and better steering (the Hotshot has bump steer). However, I wasn't entirely happy with that technique. I couldn't quite get enough force on the drill bit to mark the locating hole without moving everything, so I came up with this idea instead. I reattached the rear gearbox to the chassis, then screwed in a piece of threaded rod (actually an old steering link). Hotshot and Boomerang come with only 4x 1150 and 2 thrust bearings if I remember correctly. You need another 13x 1150 and 5x 850 bearings to fully ball race them. You can get an official Tamiya Hotshot bearing kit that has the remainder of the needed bearings, or you can just get a third party set.

However, the Hotshot would not look the same without it, so our solution was to install a dummy part to remain faithful to the original look. Haha i said in my first post that the Boomerang was the slightly more advanced buggy and i still stand by that. It definitely isn't as iconic as the Hotshot however and neither is it as attractive, subjective i know.I also said that i would choose the Boomerang over the Hotshot so i'm not entirely sure what point it is you are making aside from pulling my chain Tamiyoman Get them both, you will not be disappointed with either of them and both have since ceased production anyway so don't deliberate for too long! Tamiya originally released a special version of the R/C 4WD racing buggy Hotshot in 1986. This famous machine is set for a return as the Super Hotshot and features modern improvements while keeping the basic layout of the original. Distinctive external features such as the stylish silver body and rear wing, yellow oil dampers, and spiked tires with gold metal-plated wheels have also been kept.

A wide array of Option Parts were produced especially for modifying the Hotshot, and the machine became something that every youth at that time dreamed of.Based upon the original Hotshot II design, this shaft driven 4WD chassis has sealed gearboxes and differentials front and rear and gives an intuitive drive. If you want a truly original used example for restoration, just be aware that some people are supplementing their old cars with the cheaper, commonly available re-release parts. Some of these new parts are quite different, thus affecting the originality. Let’s have a look inside the original kit too, at all those dozens of blisters filled with little parts…
