About this deal

When everyone has voted, the reader announces if the Stupid Death is True or False, and all Voting Cards are turned face up. If the brand you buy is important to you, our best advice is to spend some time writing up your own list of ideal brands. That way when you come to the point where you’re comparing product options you can filter to only show the products from brands in your list. OBJECT OF STUPID DEATHS: The objective of Stupid Deaths is to either be the last player remaining, or the first player to reach the red space. NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2 to 6 players MATERIALS: Instructions, a Game Board, Six Extra Life Tokens, Twelve Voting Cards, One Grim Reaper, Six Playing Pieces, Three Hundred Stupid Death Cards TYPE OF GAME: Party Game AUDIENCE: 12+ Each player received an Extra Life Token, a True voting card, and a False voting card. These will be used throughout the course of the game, so do not dispose of them! This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items.

The concept of Stupid Deaths is dead simple. The cards feature a bunch (a gaggle… a murder?) of deaths and you have to decide whether they’re real or made up – true or false. If you guess right, you advance around the board… but there’s the matter of the Grim Reaper chasing you as you go! If you want to win, you have to outrun the Reaper (or, at least, aim for a dead heat). Can you (pall)bear(er) the pressure? Of corpse you can! More information on quality can be found in this old but still very helpful article from Harvard Business Review.

What’s in the box?

Players who guess correctly move one space. If there are players who voted incorrectly, the Grim Reaper moves one space for each incorrect answer. If during the game, the Grim Reaper catches up with a player, they are now “touched by death” and are out of the game unless they have an Extra Life token that they play. The first person to reach the Red space on the board or who is the last player left is the winner. This is a collaborative review post from Sam, co-founder of Dafuq Is Dis. She is a big fan of party board games and agreed to review Stupid Deaths with her family. Stupid Deaths is a brilliantly dark family board game. Some of the cards detail real life deaths, whereas others are made up. After the reader has read out the card, other players must guess if the death is true or false. Players who guessed correctly move one space forward and players who did not stay put. If all players guess incorrectly, the reader gets to move forward instead.

Furthermore, the game relies heavily on 50/50 guess work. There is no skill or way to work out which death is true or false. For me, this made the game a bit boring as you couldn’t strategise your way to victory. Nevertheless, the simplicity did make it easy to play with casual or non-gamers. The object of the game is simple, players must outrun the Grim Reaper. A player can win by being the first to reach the finish line or by being the last remaining player in the game. It sounds easy, but once you realise just how ridiculous some of the ways people have died actually are, it becomes a lot more difficult!

End of the Game

Of the 321 products, we discovered that 75 were more expensive and 163 were cheaper than Stupid Deaths Board Game. Prices from Stupid Deaths The oldest player begins the game as the reader. The player will read the Stupid Death Card aloud to the group. All other players will vote whether they think the death is a myth or a fact by choosing a voting card. When all players are ready, the chosen voting card is flipped. This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items. To return faulty items see our Returning Faulty Items policy. Players take it in turn to read out Stupid Death cards. These cards contain deathly scenarios. For example, Brahe died from a bladder infection after politeness kept him from using the bathroom during a royal banquet, causing his bladder to rupture. While the adults that played this game did enjoy it I would say the age rating of 12 is about right. The content isn’t particularly adult but obviously, the theme is death which younger children may struggle with. There is also a lot of reading involved as well so anybody playing does need to be confident in reading aloud.
