With these you can field strip and clean your rifle in minutes. I’ve always been an avid outdoorsman, reveling in hiking, camping, and weekend RV escapades. The call of the wild is irresistible, but so is the necessity for a reliable tool to accompany me on my adventures. I came across the Sheffield Premium Hammer Multi Tool and thought it would be a perfect match for my expeditions, given its 14 different tools compacted into one. Versatile: Boasts 14 different tools compacted into a single multi-tool, catering to various needs during outdoor adventures.The few tools it includes — an upgraded steel blade, good pliers, screwdrivers, and a bottle opener — are the most often used, and this tool gets these right. But that's it; if you're seeking all the tools possible, you'll be let down with this stripped-down modal. Of the remaining tools, though, our biggest complaint is with the bit driver. With the Skeletool CX, even more than with other models, Leatherman could have easily included a standard 1/4" bit driver. Still, we have tested this model for over three years, and it has slowly grown on us. Thus, the Skeletool is our top recommendation for a portable, daily multi-tool to leave clipped on your person at all times. This hammer measures 12.5 inches long. This is sturdier and more reliable than the cheap plastic mallets included with most tent sets. While hammer multi tools are designed to be versatile, they are not intended for heavy-duty tasks. They are more suitable for light to moderate tasks such as driving small nails, tightening screws, cutting wires, and other similar activities. For heavy-duty tasks, it’s best to use dedicated tools designed specifically for those purposes. The hammer itself is an interesting shape but is well suited for light to medium pounding and hammering. The nail puller is effective and the various hex wrenches are well sized.
The hammer part of this multi tool isn’t obvious at first. The manufacturer basically advises that you can flip the shovel around and pound down with it for light hammering tasks. We were skeptical at first but it actually does work reasonably well for most camping and survival hammer needs. If you’re looking for an ultra compact hammer the Kikkerland Mini Keychain Hammer Multi Tool is a definite contender. It’s just a few inches long and weighs under 2 ounces. Despite this it includes 6 different tools:The Leatherman Wave+ brings heaps of value to the Leatherman line-up. Leatherman takes 90% of what makes the Charge so impressive and sells it for 60% of the cost. What you get is the Wave+ and an excellent value. The Leatherman Wingman is even less expensive, by a significant margin, but has fewer features and is made with lesser quality materials (though most users may not notice the weight savings of steel vs. titanium casing). For a full-featured tool, the Wave+ is the bargain shopper's choice. Like the Signal the MUT is a more specialized multi tool. We’ll be frank, if you don’t frequently find yourself shooting AR15 rifles it probably isn’t the tool for you. If you do though it gives you a lot of really useful tools and features. We’ve tried to put together a cross section of the market including everything from keychain sized novelty multi tools to high-end products from companies like Leatherman. Ergonomics: Look for a tool with a comfortable grip that allows for easy handling and reduces fatigue during prolonged use. The axe portion of it is great for splitting kindling, basic carving tasks, and shaving wood down to start a fire. It’s easy to swing and control, weighing just over a pound.
