Over the years through further exploration, I think that I have becomet amazed though about how many possible

Le monde selon HR GigerExhibition catalog introduction by Martine Lusardy, Director of Halle Saint PierreHe began with displays in galleries, pubs, and communal venues. But he swiftly grew beyond the limitations of the art world.

The xenomorph is an extraterrestrial from the most desolate parts of space. Hans Ruedi Giger is most recognized for influencing the aesthetic direction of Alien. Even so many years after his passing, his singular outlook continues to influence. In addition to his awards, Giger was recognized by a variety of festivals and institutions. On the one year anniversary of his death, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City staged the series The Unseen Cinema of HR Giger in May 2015. Notwithstanding his father’s wishes for him to pursue a profession as a chemist, Giger pursued architecture at Zurich’s School of Applied Arts. He began his work as an interior designer after graduation in the mid-1960s but soon opted to explore visual art full-time. He progressed from ink sketches and oil art pieces to utilizing an airbrush to make his art. By the early 1970s, news had spread about Giger’s skill. In 1977, Giger released a book of his illustrations which was called The Necronomicon. It made his fans look for parallels between his paintings and Lovecraft’s Cthulhu worlds for many years. In fact, Giger just liked the name. This book called for the first wave of popularity for Hans Rudy, which even reached Hollywood. At the time, director Ridley Scott was working on the concept for Alien and couldn’t find an artist who could provide him with a suitable sketch depicting a bloodthirsty alien. At some point, the film operator showed Scott Giger’s Necronomicon, and when he saw the Necronom IV, he realized that his search was over. Some claim that H. R. Giger’s art is frequently sad and negative, with a focus on death, blood, overpopulation, odd entities, and so on, but he disagrees. His first effective endeavor at reaching out to people through visual art happened in 1969 when a poster of one of his paintings was released. Hans Ruedi Giger (/ˈɡiːɡər/ GHEE-gər; German: [ˈɡiːɡər]; 5 February 1940 – 12 May 2014) was a Swiss painter, whose style was adapted for many forms of media, including record albums, furniture and tattoos.

H.R. Giger accomplished many things during his life as an artist, he lived until the age of 74. He left a legacy that many are inspired by and still visit today at his Saint-Germain Castle in Gruyѐres in Switzerland. This is also where the H.R. Giger Museum is located and the innovative H.R. Giger Bar, created in the same alien style allows visitors an embodied experience. Giger’s creative approach was shaped by an early obsession with skeletons and mummies, and also by his personal childhood anxieties. He started sketching as a child in Chur, Switzerland, to vent his fear from repeated dreams and weird visions. His fears were heightened by his visit to the Giger family house in Chur. He remembered wide windows leading to dark lanes and the dungeons of that old structure, which had instilled anxiety in him from a young age. Giger talked about his ideas be hind the final Necronom IV painting , also take note of the fact that Giger: TheHer focal points of interest in art history encompass profiling specific artists and art movements, as it is these areas where she is able to really dig deep into the rich narrative of the art world. Additionally, she particularly enjoys exploring the different artistic styles of the 20 th century, as well as the important impact that female artists have had on the development of art history.

There’s a bunch of text by Giger throughout the book. Biographical info, anecdotes, the sad story of his friend Li, thoughts about his artistic process and about art in general. He’s a pretty funny character - very cynical. The piece called ‘Scholarships’ is particularly enjoyable. At the end, there’s a more academic piece by another writer, which I didn’t think was particularly necessary to include. Giger had a relationship with Swiss actress Li Tobler until she committed suicide in 1975. Li's image appears in many of his paintings. He married Mia Bonzanigo in 1979; they divorced a year and a half later. The Necronom IV by H.R. Giger depicts the alien figure standing in a profile position (seen from the side) and centrally placed in the composition. Only its upper torso, up to its waistline, is visible, and its lower torso and legs are not in our, the viewers, sight. It has a thin emaciated physique revealing around ten ribs. It is a combination of the skeleton, skin, muscle, and almost machine, all of which becomes a “biomechanical” creature, which is a term often attributed to Giger’s art.
