About this deal

wait i just remembered Levi saying "i'm afraid of zombies and man enough to admit it" and literally fell in love with him all love again Like an avenging, purple-haired Jedi bringing balance to the mansplained universe, Bee Königswasser lives by a simple code: What would Marie Curie do? Torn between loyalty and an undeniable attraction, Rue and Eli throw caution out the lab and the boardroom windows. Mara sees the house in Washington, D.C., that her mentor willed to her as a perfect (if outrageous) gift. It’s within walking distance to her job and in a good neighborhood, and, thanks to family money, really large. There’s just one problem: Mara owns only one-half of the house. The other is owned by her mentor’s nephew, Liam, who wants nothing more than to continue living there, without Mara.

this story was nothing special, but i enjoyed it more than TLH. the romance felt less forced, and while the characterization was superficial, i liked the couple. i just think that the third act conflict was handled very poorly, like it was abandoned and felt anticlimactic. it was disappointing that we didnt get to see the H & h clear out the miscommunication about their living arrangement and their true feelings for each other before they jumped each others bones. and the audacity that they were having important conversations (like the “are u clean” talk & read quotes👆) while doing it?! like, are you sure youre PhD graduates?? Readers of The Love Hypothesis may be happy to know that Hazelwood’s Under One Roof is just as bingeable – if not more so! It’s short and snappy pacing makes it almost impossible not to read in one sitting. Rue Siebert might not have itall, but she hasenough: a few friends she can always count on, the financial stability she yearned for as a kid, and a successful career as a biotech engineer at Kline, one of the most promising start-ups in the field of food science.

Although the first in the STEMinist novellas, Ali Hazelwood’s Under One Roof has little actual science talk. It makes sense, considering the length of the story. We do wish we saw a little more into Mara’s career as an environmental engineer but ultimately the tension inside the house is what made the book so great. Mara’s psycho fantasies about violently maiming Liam were because of HOW HE LIVED IN HIS OWN HOUSE??? THAT HE OWNED??? okay no spoilers but in the book there is a scene that is similar to P&P 2005 where Darcy walks in the moor BUT it's different and perfectly matches the values of Dorsey and Liza and I WILL NEVER STOP THINKING ABOUT IT If NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project—a literal dream come true after years scraping by on the crumbs of academia—Marie would accept without hesitation. Duh. It will take the frosty terrain of the Arctic to show these rival scientists that their chemistry burns hot.

I like you very much, Mara. I like talking to you. I like watching you do yoga. I like the way you always smell like sunscreen. I like how you manage to say pretty much whatever you want while still being unbelievably kind. I like being in this house with you and everything we do in here.”I love you, I think. And I suspect that you love me, too. And I cannot wait for us to admit it to each other. I cannot wait to see what happens next.” Ali Hazelwood, Under One Roof

I stiffen. “Are you asking because I’m a woman and therefore unable to do anything remotely scientific without causing radioactive pollution? Because if so, I–“ As an environmental engineer, Mara knows all about the delicate nature of ecosystems. They require balance. And leaving the thermostat alone. And not stealing someone else’s food. And other rules Liam, her detestable big-oil lawyer of a roommate, knows nothing about. Okay, sure, technicallyshe’s the interloper. Liam was already entrenched in his aunt’s house like some glowering grumpy giant when Mara moved in, with his big muscles and kissable mouth just sitting there on the couch tempting respectable scientists to the dark side…but Helena washermentor and Mara’s not about to move out and give up her inheritance without a fight.anyways, that’s all I got. I probably won’t read the last two novellas, but because I did love the Love Hypothesis, I’ll be reading Love on the Brain when it comes out.

let's start with the most important matters: this book has some of the best sex scenes i've ever read. Her world is stable, pleasant, and hard-fought. Until a hostile takeover and its offensively attractive front man threatens to bring it all crumbling down. There's something about Ali Hazelwood's writing that just makes me so happy. All I want to do is smile and laugh, and then my cheeks are sore by the time I'm a few chapters in. Good thing this was a novella. Maybe too much. Since I almost lost it a number of times just by being near you. So, I’ll be more than fine if you just let me take care of you and—” The Love Hypothesis was developed from a 2018 Star Wars fan fiction about the " Reylo" ship between Rey and Kylo Ren [3] [4] originally titled Head Over Feet and published by Hazelwood on AO3 under the pen name "Ever-so-reylo". [5] The main characters were renamed Olive and Adam (the latter after Adam Driver), with all explicit Star Wars references cut, and the characters on the novel's cover illustration designed after Driver and Daisy Ridley. [6] [7] Other works [ edit ]Ali Hazelwood taught me something last year. A very important something. If you've read The Love Hypothesis, you may know exactly what I am talking about. Okay, sure, technicallyshe’s the interloper. Liam was already entrenched in his aunt’s house like some glowering grumpy giant when Mara moved in, with his big muscles and kissable mouth just sitting there on the couch tempting respectable scientists to the dark side…but Helena washermentor and Mara’s not about to move out and give up her inheritance without a fight. When we start out this book, it’s super easy to assume that the MMC, Liam, is an uber confident rich boy with little to no care for the environment etc. (As any scientist can tell you, the biggest obstacle to true scientific work are the agendas of politicians, big oil, and big tech.) A good book needs an interesting well-developed story, with the right amount of information and a good pace. A novella requires the same thing, but in a different format. The question is, just because it succeeds the first time, will it succeed the second time? Reading this almost feels like reading TLH again which is a total loss because what is the actual plot here? I get that this is a novella, which is why I said, Under One Roof may work as a full-length book, but not as a novella itself. Especially when this book was short enough, but was told in a time jump.
