It also exclusively focuses on the Classical Saiva Tantra lineage, not the misinterpreted Neo-Tantra style that emphasizes passion.

Bhajana writes “Kundalini Yoga is the science to unite the finite with Infinity, and it’s the art to experience Infinity in the finite.” Yes, your spiritual practice might be amplifying the effects of your kundalini awakening. Because sex sells, most ‘tantra’ classes only teach the sexual aspect of tantra and ignore the solo, yogic parts,” says Piper. Tantra can also be translated as “web of light,” referring to the energy created from uniting male and female energies. The purpose of tantric meditation is to increase awareness of the spiritual or subtle nature of the physical body, which is your web of light. Tantric Buddhism Most people who go through a kundalini awakening experience changes and shifts over several years. Once the kundalini energy awakens, it continues flowing through your system, changing your thoughts and emotions as your mind opens up to your new reality and higher consciousness. The Sanskrit word Tantra translates to loom, warp, or weave, referring to a specific instructional text, often presented as a dialogue between a god and goddess. Before I delve into some of the primary sources, I need to say something that is unfortunately controversial, but is nonetheless true. What is being taught in countless yoga studios right now under the name of ‘Kundalini Yoga’ is a form of practice that bears no relation to any traditional practice associated with the word Kuṇḍalinī. The modern practice that goes by the name ‘Kundalini Yoga’ was created by a man called Harbhajan Singh Puri, better known as the 3HO cult leader ‘ Yogi Bhajan’. If you regard this kind of ‘Kundalini Yoga’ as an authentic traditional practice handed down through generations, I invite you to look at a brilliant article by the scholar Philip Deslippe, called “ From Maharaj to Mahan Tantric: The Construction of Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Yoga”. This scholarly article proves that ‘Yogi Bhajan’ didn’t inherit, but rather fabricated, the practice(s) that he transmitted to his students under the name ‘Kundalini Yoga’. And why does this matter? Well, it doesn’t necessarily matter if somebody loves that practice, and it benefits them. I think it’s important to know, however, that the practice taught as ‘Kundalini Yoga’ in Western yoga studios today, whenever it derives from ‘Yogi Bhajan’ (which it nearly always does), has no relation to what is taught in connection with the word kuṇḍalinī in the original Sanskrit sources.

Tools for Tantra teaches you about this unique and lesser-known part of Tantric meditation, which can help you progress along your spiritual path. You’ll discover the power yantras have when combined with rituals and will learn how to create your own, with step-by-step instructions on construction, coloring, and usage. Next up on our list of the best Kundalini books is Kundalini Yoga for the West: A Foundation for Character Building Courage and Awareness by Sivananda Radha. Kundalini yoga ( kuṇḍalinī-yoga) derives from kundalini, defined in tantra as energy that lies within the body, frequently at the navel or the base of the spine. In normative tantric systems, kundalini is considered to be dormant until it is activated (as by the practice of yoga) and channeled upward through the central channel in a process of spiritual perfection. Other schools, such as Kashmir Shaivism, teach that there are multiple kundalini energies in different parts of the body which are active and do not require awakening. Kundalini is believed by adherents to be power associated with the divine feminine, Shakti. [1] [2] [3] [4] Kundalini yoga as a school of yoga is influenced by Shaktism and Tantra schools of Hinduism. [5] It derives its name through a focus on awakening kundalini energy through regular practice of mantra, tantra, yantra, yoga, laya, haṭha, meditation, or even spontaneously ( sahaja). [6] [7] History [ edit ] Drawing of the subtle body in an Indic manuscript showing the energy centres ( chakras), the main subtle channels ( nadis), and the coiled serpent energy at the base of the spine ( kundalini). The serpent is shown again on the left of the drawing. Name [ edit ]Kundalini awakenings are often called spiritual awakenings, but they are technically not the same thing.

Cultivate love: Feeling love is important, but Rebelle notes giving love ultimately helps us cultivate more of it. To do so, try loving-kindness meditation. Mantras help you focus during meditation and are crucial to kundalini meditation. Unlike other forms of yoga and meditation, Kundalini typically involves chanting in Gurmukhi, a sacred Indian language, rather than Sanskrit. Moreover, some signs can be scary and unpleasant, so it’s best to be prepared for when your Kundalini awakens. So if you’re seeking to experience Kundalini, here’s what to look out for. Pleasant symptoms As such, it provides a deep and thorough exploration of the various techniques, sets, and meditations used in Kundalini Yoga practice. Drawing on personal experiences and perspectives, the book is designed to capture and translatethe oft-mystifying Eastern teachings of Kundalini into language and form accessible to Western minds. This energy is believed to be coiled like a snake (hence the Kundalini Snake symbol) and can be released and directed through the body and chakras via the above-mentioned spiritual exercises, helping guide practitioners toward a spiritual awakening.
