About this deal

If You Still Recognise Me by Cynthia So is just so SO perfect. Refreshing, relatable and raw in its honesty, this is the book I wish I'd had as a queer teen discovering my identity.” - Sarah Underwood, author of Lies We Sing to the Sea The strength of If You Still Recognise Me lies in the power of its representation, vibrancy, warmth and joy balanced with the complexity of navigating feelings and understanding the difference between a crush and true love. Cynthia also crosses generations, showcasing an immensity of love for young and old across the spectrum. One thing I particularly loved is that this book doesn't end with the main character neatly coming out to her parents and grandmother, like you might expect. I feel like we often see a focus on coming out as the end goal in a book for the character to live happily ever after, and I love how this took the pressure off. It’s the summer before she starts university, and a comic enthusiast from Oxford, England, has plans. A celebration of fannish glee, queer joy and family in all senses of the word. If You Still Recognise Me asks what it means to find yourself, when we are all more than a single story. I adored it. - Kat Dunn, author of Dangerous Remedy

Overall I adored this book. I highly recommend everyone gives it this one a try, especially if you enjoy queer romances. A lot of the book is focused on Elsie's favourite Tumblr fandom (which is also where she met Ada). While I grew up in Tumblr fandoms (and therefore can definitely relate to a lot of Elsie's online experiences), it's not really my favourite thing to read about anymore.Take a Look at Our Summary of November Highlights, Whether You're Looking for the Latest Releases or Gift Inspiration Dystopian Fiction Books Everyone Should Read: Explore The Darker Side of Possible Worlds and Alternative Futures I cant not touch on what else really stood out to me - the portrayal of fandom culture. Often authors get this *so* wrong, having their teenage MCs speak in a way that sounds like they’ve logged onto urbandictionary, typed in youth slang and not bothered to look at the definitions - but Cynthia was spot on. It felt like a love letter to all of us readers who grew up immersed in those spaces, it almost me nostalgic for a time where waiting for the newest update was my primary issue. During her last summer break before uni starts, Elsie has many plans and one of them includes telling her internet crush Ada how she feels about her. But then she suddenly meets her long-lost best friend Joan again and everything gets a little bit more complicated...

A: For me it's this book IF You Still Recognize Me (5000⭐). This book involving an estranged childhood friend who moved oceans away but then meeting each other again just to realize you're Beautifully written with moments of sheer lyricism. A must-read for humans of all ages and walks of life. I loved it so much! - Wibke Brueggemann, author of Love is for Losers Coffee house Caffè Nero has announced the 16-strong shortlist for the inaugural Nero Book Awards, recognising the outstanding books of the past 12... I was inspired by some delightful stories I read on social media, of people finding their older relatives’ diaries and discovering that their relatives might have been queer. Elsie Lo has a crush on Ada, a friend she met online through fandom. They’ve never seen each other in real life, because Ada lives an ocean away. The summer before university, Elsie hatches a grand plan to win over Ada – by going on a search for Ada’s grandma’s long-lost best friend. Along the way, Elsie reunites with her own long-lost best friend, and things don’t quite go according to plan…
