Adults and children of 12 years and over for short term diarrhoea: Take two capsules to start with. After that, take one capsule after each loose bowel movement. Don’t take more than 6 capsules in any 24 hours. Don’t take for more than 24 hours.

Chemotherapy drugs: Chemotherapy drugs can cause diarrhoea as a side effect, as they can damage the lining of the intestines. The colour ponceau 4R (E124) in this medicine may cause allergic reactions. If you take other medicines In case of overdose (including relative overdose due to hepatic dysfunction), CNS depression (stupor, coordination abnormality, somnolence, miosis, muscular hypertonia and respiratory depression), constipation, urinary retention and ileus may occur. If untreated deep coma and respiratory arrest can occur. Children, and patients with hepatic dysfunction, may be more sensitive to CNS effects. Please note that these capsules relieve the symptoms of diarrhoea only and should not be used as a substitute for rehydration treatment. 2. BEFORE YOU TAKE THE MEDICINEDo not take this medicine if:

Concomitant treatment with oral desmopressin resulted in a 3-fold increase of desmopressin plasma concentrations, presumably due to slower gastrointestinal motility. If you need to take this medicine for diarrhoea associated with IBS for more than 14 days, or if you notice new symptoms, or symptoms worsen, talk to your doctor. If you take too many capsules Diphenoxylate works by slowing down the movement of stools through the intestines, which can help to reduce the frequency and severity of diarrhoea. It does this by binding to the opioid receptors in the gut, which can help to reduce the contractions of the intestinal muscles.

You can buy loperamide from pharmacies and supermarkets. It is also available on prescription for treating some bowel conditions. Electrolytes are often used for the management of diarrhoea because they can help to replenish the body’s fluids and minerals that are lost during episodes of diarrhoea. When a person has diarrhoea, they can lose significant amounts of water, salts, and minerals, which can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.Travellers’ diarrhoea can often be prevented by practising good hygiene and food safety practices, such as washing hands frequently with soap and water, avoiding tap water, ice, and raw or undercooked foods, and choosing bottled water and food that has been cooked thoroughly. IF YOU TAKE TOO MUCH: If you take more capsules than you should, tell your doctor or pharmacist. 4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

If you have any of the following serious side effects, stop taking the medicine and see a doctor straight away: it can also be used by adults of 18 years and over who have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which has been previouslydiagnosed by a doctor, to relieve short term diarrhoeaassociated with it. Before you take this medicine Diarrhoea is a common symptom of a number of serious conditions in the stomach and bowel,if your diarrhoea lasts for a long time or keeps returning, talkto your doctor. However, it is important to note that codeine can be habit-forming and may cause side effects such as drowsiness, nausea, and constipation, so it should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Additionally, codeine is not typically used as a first-line treatment for diarrhoea, and other treatments, such as rehydration and changes in diet, are often recommended first. Co-phenotrope as an Imodium alternative If you are allergic to loperamide or to any of the ingredients in this medicine (see “What is in this medicine”)Most people can take this medicine without any problems but sometimes you may notice some side effects. Morphine, on the other hand, is an opioid analgesic that can reduce the contractions of the intestinal muscles, which can help to reduce the speed of stool passage through the intestines and alleviate the symptoms of diarrhoea.

If patients are taking this medicine to control episodes of diarrhoea associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome previously diagnosed by their doctor, and clinical improvement is not observed within 48 hours, the administration of Loperamide Hydrochloride should be discontinued and they should consult their doctor. Patients should also return to their doctor if the pattern of their symptoms changes or if the repeated episodes of diarrhoea continue for more than two weeks. Driving and using machines: Diarrhoea or this medicine may cause people to feel tired, sleepy or dizzy. You should not drive or use machines, until you are sure you are not affected. Skin rashes or other signs of allergic reaction such as itching, swelling of the lips, tongueor throat, or difficulty in breathing. Two capsules (4mg) initially followed by 1 capsule (2mg) after every loose stool (motion). The total daily dose should not exceed 6 capsules (12mg).Orodispersible tablets dissolve in the mouth when placed on the tongue without the need for liquid. As with previous products, Imodium Instants contain loperamide 2mg. capsules or tablets: take 2 capsules or tablets, taken immediately. Then take 1 capsule or tablet after each runny poo.
