Christians believe that God is a creator who loves variety. He made thousands of flower species and within each flower species, thousands of variations. He took even more care when he made us - we are all different. Even twins are not exactly the same. How wonderful! How boring it would be if we had 100 children in the school all exactly the same as each other! Imagine if all the teachers were exactly the same, too! Children know about similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families, communities and traditions. (Foundation) Celebrate the differences in all pupils and staff, so that pupils with differences that are less common, such as a disability or a disfigurement, don't feel especially different. As each slide appears, read the list to the children and ask them what the list has in common – why have these items been grouped together? This ground-breaking book examines the roots and impact of identity-based prejudice in schools, drawing on Shaun's own experiences of homophobic bullying and his subsequent career as a teacher and school leader. Celebrating Difference is an inspiring handbook for LGBT+ inclusion, aimed at all primary and secondary teachers and leaders. Written by Shaun Dellenty, internationally celebrated lead in LGBT+ inclusion in education, it is filled with practical advice to enable schools to bring about organisational change to ensure the safety, success, mental health and wellbeing of all pupils and staff. At the same time, other children might need to learn how to communicate with a classmate who communicates in a different way or finds it hard to communicate. The meconopsis is a blue poppy-like flower, one of the few blue flowers around. It has a long stem, with several flowers on each stem. Avoid talking to other students about a classmate’s difference, outside of the parameters they are happy with, even if they ask. If the points above are already well covered then it will be quite straightforward to encourage a curious or doubtful youngster to get to know their classmate for themselves.Understand the moral and statutory rationale for LGBT+ inclusion from the beginning of education through to school leavers.
