We used a Logitech G29 and Thrustmaster T-GT ii to see whether it could withstand a strong force feedback wheel.

I'm looking for a good "budget" rig and I saw that the next level racing f-gt is discounted at 390€. Broadly speaking, there are two main considerations here, whether you want a traditional upright GT car position, or to be sat on the floor with the pedals higher than your hips like in a formula car.Designed and engineered by using the feedback from our community, virtual and real motorsport industry feedback; the Next Level Racing® F-GT Elite racing simulator cockpit* is a true all in one formula/GT/Hybrid position racing cockpit pushing the boundaries of what is expected of an aluminium profile cockpit and setting a new standard for sim racing. Next Level Racing’s rig is made from breathable fabric (the whole back section is vented) suspended between tough metal tubes, which in turn hinge through plastic hubs that the maker says are strong enough to withstand 150kg each. You no longer need an expensive cockpit just for formula racing as the Next Level Racing F-GT is suitable for all your racing titles by offering dual racing positions. The F-GT Cockpit was used by the Real Esport team to win the GTR Endurance E-Racing World Championship.

This is the big difference between the F-GT Lite and the Next Level Racing GT Lite, which only offers the first. Extras such as gear shifter support, seat slider, lumbar support cushion, height adjustable feet and the Buttkicker® Gamer 2 adapter are all features which come included with the Next Level Racing® F-GT making it the best value cockpit in the market. Even the ends of the profile and hole fixtures are anodised, giving them long term protection and aids with a safer setup. Featuring custom designed feet that are an improvement compared to most industrial feet, aid with shock absorption and can be adjusted for height on each corner of the cockpit. We have kept this in mind when designing our height adjustment feet allowing independent adjustments for the height of each corner of your cockpit.

Also very easy to recommend if you’re just dipping your toe in the water and don’t want to commit to a full-blown static rig. Not only does it withstand twisting force feedback movements but telegraphs vibrations from the track surface straight into the seat base and pedalboard, without any annoying rattles or buzzes.

I suspect a Playseat Challenge tucks up smaller still, but at the expense of the adjustability and spaciousness you get from the F-GT Lite. The F-GT Lite is compatible with all major wheels and pedals and pre-drilled for Logitech®, Thrustmaster®, Fanatec® and supports wheels that have clamping mounting options.

The thing is, the same hubs that set the various seating angles are also the folding points when you want to put it away, so you can’t get the seat in a position you like and then fold it up, ready to go for next time. There’s a Velcro strap to the driver’s left that can be used to winch the wheel support tight, which greatly improves the overall rigidity of the seat. On the opposite side is a plastic clamp so you can swing the wheel out of the way to make getting in and out easier, and this feels robust and built to last. Next Level Racing told us this seat isn’t designed for direct drive wheels like the Fanatec CSL DD and that makes sense – I suspect the mounting points and structure itself would be ok, but the additional weight of such a set-up mounted high up would potentially make the whole thing quite unstable.

This racing seat can be used in two configurations: upright, in the GT position, and more lying in the F1 position. You can easily mount your Thrustmaster, Logitech and Fanatec hardware on the F-GT’s pre-drilled plates. The unique design allows mounting of all popular electronics and gives the user various adjustments to find the perfect flying or racing position.
