The pack-in earbuds are nicer than I expected, but the real surprise was the P20 Pro's main speaker — it can sound a little hollow, but it's among the loudest on a smartphone.

The P20 Pro’s trifecta of Leica-branded rear-facing cameras includes one 40-megapixel RGB unit, one that captures 20-megapixel monochrome images and another that delivers 8-megapixel telephoto shots. Her specialty is everyday electronics, be that a cheap laptop for uni or an easy-to-use smartphone for an elderly parent. Having said that, I still think the Huawei camera app is one of the best camera app in the market, especially now with the redesigned user interface. And since a lot of P20 Pro’s camera features were carried over from previous Huawei phones, I would skip most of them to avoid making this review super long.Dial that up to 5x, though, and we're in hybrid-zoom territory, where the camera combines data from the 40MP main and 8MP telephoto cameras. Blacks are perfect, and there's minimal blue cast when the phone is tilted, which affects some less advanced OLED displays. The Huawei P20 Pro is also a little prone to fingerprint smudges and the slightly raised camera housing picks up dust fairly quickly. A lot of features are only accessible by first selecting “More” in the main menu, then you’ll see a pop up menu for you to select the feature you want.

The P20 features a 12-megapixel colour sensor, while the P20 Pro features two cameras—a 40-megapixel wide-angle IMX600 sensor, and an 8-megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom. The phone is water resistant to IP67, meaning it can handle submersion in one meter of fresh water for 30 minutes. However, the Sony Xperia XZ2 is capable of besting the both of them – recording slow-motion footage at Full HD resolution. The battery is compatible with 40W SuperCharge and 27W Wireless SuperCharge, meaning charging is quick and easy. The edgeless fingerprint sensor with smart navigation instead of the virtual bar can offer an additional informative area.So the consensus is clear: if cameras matter the most, but apps aren't so important, the Huawei P40 Pro will do just fine.

Apart from that, pretty much everything about P20 Pro’s camera is class leading and in some cases by a large margin. That said, this plastic film does attract fingerprints pretty readily, so you may want to swap it for a tempered glass screen protector down the line.It still does fail to recognise me occasionally (so it's nice to have the fingerprint sensor as a backup), and it only relies on the front-facing camera, so it's not as secure as Apple's FaceID. In fact, tester Techradar has ranked it 4th best smartphone of 2018, following the two already mentioned and the smaller Galaxy S9. But anyway, this photo was shot in RAW mode and I converted it to a 40MP JPG in Lightroom (mainly brightness/curve adjustments and sharpening at default value). aperture and smaller sensor size so don’t expect the telephoto would have same low light performance as the main camera. The device itself is absolutely excellent, performs wonderfully though the camera is unreliable in quality and is running a version of android 10 that, in fairness, is still receiving feature updates.
