About this deal

As you can imagine, and as you’ll know already if you’ve seen the Seasons One and Eight 4K sets, high dynamic range adds much to this image. Things are coming to a boil as reunions, alliances, payback, betrayal, the deaths of key players, and a pretty meaningful revelation, take place, putting the pieces in place for the chess game that will decide the outcome. While one or two later series (with bigger budgets) of Game Of Thrones top season one for spectacle and story sophistication, there’s something about Season one’s rawness, unflinching brutality, and world-building cleverness that still makes it my personal favorite season to date. So if you want that scene as originally broadcast, you’ll want to hang onto that first Blu-ray set in particular.

Flashes of yellow hay and occasionally red or blonde hair contrast nicely with the steely cold look of the area. The 7th Season is a compelling and, at times shocking experience, that proved to be one of the series best ever. And rest assured I’m going to do my best to cover everything you’ll find here, but I’m only a mere mortal. Comparing the Dolby Vision and HDR10 presentations for Game of Thrones, I found the HDR renderings to be very close.

I did shell out the money for the new complete UHD set but I have a question for those who have either the individual seasons on Blu-ray or the series box sets. As betrayal, lust, intrigue and supernatural forces shake the four corners of the Kingdoms, their bloody struggle for the Iron Throne will have unforeseen and far-reaching consequences. Most majors DO include such functionality, as most recent discs from Fox, MGM, Disnee, Warners, Sony, Lionsgate and Universal, even Criterion, carry a software-led resume which will prompt you (either upon inserting the disc or during/after the initial studio logo) to resume from where you left off, providing you haven't since erased the persistent memory of your player. The color palette is quite bold in any lands of Westeros and it is revealed in each season that boasts both earthy tones and magical realms with everything in between to a tee. It’s interesting looking back at it now, too, to remember afresh just how groundbreaking it was in 2011 in terms of how far it was prepared to go to ensure that seriously unpleasant stuff happens to the most pleasant people. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. However, that’s the ONLY negative thing you will ever find me saying throughout the rest of the review. Remember up above I mentioned the Episode Guide lists all the extras and breaks them down by what disc they can be found on? The 30-minute ‘making of’ feature is pleasingly substantial too, and while other featurettes - covering such stuff as the creation of the Dothraki language, the opening credits sequence and the process of adapting such a huge story for the screen - are much briefer, they still add up to an informative set of goodies overall.
