About this deal

In 1959 he began work on his most famous work, Dune, which was serialised by Analog magazine between 1963 and 1965. The length should not be a put-off to less experienced readers, it is a very good book that you won’t be able to put down. Dune is a 1965 science-fiction novel by American author Frank Herbert, originally published as two separate serials in Analog magazine. The conflicts in the plot are not a bipolar battle of Good vs Evil, but instead the conflagration of the church and state, whether the use of atomics can be justified, our relationship with nature, the benefits of human advancement against the drawbacks of substance dependency, and the place of technology in society.

Featuring extraordinary illustrations by Clive Hicks-Jenkins and an exclusive introduction by Janina Ramirez, each of the 750 numbered copies has been signed by both contributors. The plot of the first third of the book is not so much foreshadowed as explained in advance in intricate detail. Facing political intrigue and conspiracy, Paul must navigate the consequences of his choices and the challenges of maintaining control over an empire shaped by prophecy and betrayal. Dune Messiah": The second book in the series follows the aftermath of Paul Atreides' rise to power as the Emperor of the Known Universe. Frank Herbert’s beloved sci-fi epic turned 50 this year, and the Folio Society has celebrated by publishing a stunning new edition featuring painted illustrations by Sam Weber. The sisterhood's survival hinges on the secret of their breeding program and the potential of merging with the sandworms, even as they encounter powerful adversaries and uncertain alliances. As far as im concerned people reviewing this are slightly upset there image of Paul is turned upside down. This is however in my opinion not a different book in the Dune universe but something that should be read immediately after Dune or ASAP.

The first great English detective novel, Wilkie Collins’ The Moonstone is presented in a Folio Society limited edition of 750 numbered copies.

I’m going to have to start my review of Frank Herbert’s Dune with a word of warning about my specific edition, the paperback 50th anniversary edition published by Hodder under ISBN 978-0-340-96019-6. Folio commissioned Hokyoung Kim for the artwork, while the late author’s wife, Wendy Benchley, provides a fascinating new introduction. I have read about this book being the best Sci fi book ever and with the film being released soon, I had to check it out. After all, if I’m too caught up in the everyday to start changing some of my short-sighted habits, the fault is mine entirely.

TLDR I'd recommend anyone who cares about quality and attention to detail to steer clear of the Hodder Publishing version of Dune. This collector’s edition of Frank Herbert’s phenomenal tale of far-future desert warriors, fallible messiahs and interplanetary intrigue is illustrated by award-winning artist Sam Weber, and published to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the world’s best-selling science-fiction title. We don’t have any plans to re-jacket the rest of the series (we publish several of the early sequels) but this could change! Since 2009, the names of planets from the Dune novels have been adopted for the real-life nomenclature of plains and other features on Saturn's moon Titan. Also included is an illuminating afterword by Brian Herbert, son of the author, who has penned several best-selling novels that expand the Dune universe. Many years before the need for climate change on earth was recognised, the dream of transforming a planet’s climate from a superheated dust bowl is an unintentionally relevant prediction. So far ahead of its time when it was written it is still just as compelling as any of the more recent saga’s.
