Hot on the heels of a sold out show at London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum, Charlie is delighted to announce a brand new solo album ‘Hope Is A Drug’. With intimate ballads such as ‘I See You’ and uptempo pop songs such as ‘Blameless’ and the upcoming ‘All The Best’, the album showcases an artist confidently pushing the boundaries of a remarkable 20 year career.

Featuring the singles ‘I See You’, ‘Blameless’, ‘One Of Us’ and ‘All the Best’, the record serves as the follow up to 2015’s ‘Little Hands’ and arrives a mere few months after the runaway success of Simpson’s sold out show at London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum last November, where he debuted some of the albums material, live for the first time. The new album will now be released on April 15th, and as with all touring cycles, naturally I want you to have the new album before my upcoming shows, so the tour has been pushed back to May, with the exception of both London shows remaining on April 18 and 19. It’s fascinating how the human psyche has the endless capacity for optimism as a mechanism for overcoming adversity. In an exclusive interview with NME, he revealed that he "started writing it in 2019" and wanted to be "more stripped-back and showed my more vulnerable side".As other reviewers have mentioned, the songs on this album are another set of classic Charlie Simpson tunes. The arrangement and production is a little different to the previous releases, which were somewhat retro in style, with a bit of a 70s vibe. Hope Is a Drug is preceded by the singles “I See You,” “Blameless,” “One of Us,” and “All the Best”.

He informed Virgin Radio that most of the tracks were written on the piano, rather than his usual instrument, the guitar. The way he uses lyrics and his own production techniques, harmonising with his own voice always draws me into his music. A majority of the tracks were written on the piano, and he purposefully avoided the guitar in favour of a different instrument. The majority of the album was self-produced at Charlie's own recording studio, built from scratch during the global lockdown.
