On the recommendation of a friend, I looked up a Be More Chill bootleg (though the best one I could find was about 75% black screen) and then listened to the soundtrack on repeat. Vizzini often corresponded with fans who told him that his books helped them cope with their own mental anguish. His young adult novels, including “Be More Chill” and “It’s Kind of a Funny Story,” which chronicles the five days he spent in a Brooklyn psychiatric ward, continue to sell tens of thousands of copies a year, and collectively have more than a million copies in print.

The novel ends with a personal note from Jeremy, stating that instead of a formal letter, the apology became a full-fledged book.

The novel, on the other hand, takes a more lighthearted approach and incorporates a lot more humor and carelessness. The squip gets Jeremy to work out, stop masturbating, speak his mind, and tell his parents the truth. Founded in 1998 by (now author) Kimberly Pauley as a basic stopover for people looking for information on young adult books, YABC has since evolved into one of the largest professional book recommendation sites targeted towards tween and teen readers.

Fans of both versions are sure to have their own opinions on which is better, but regardless of personal preferences, it’s undeniable that Be More Chill is a unique story that’s entertaining in both its book and musical forms. The novel paints an ugly picture where sexual conquests are measured and, in particular, the boys’ treatment of the girls is misogynistic and insulting. I finished this in one day, not because it was engrossing, but the material presented in here was so shocking I needed to read until the end to make sure it wasn't a satire. Bittersweet Ending: The story ends with the squip shutting down, and Jeremy intending to give Christine his account of what happened over the last few months. Soon, he learns about the "squip," a computer pill which you eat and which can help you become Cool.

Let’s just sit back and appreciate the whiplash between Jeremy complaining about how he’s not been awarded a girl to complaining about how these girls aren’t making enough out of themselves. I don't remember much about this musical (I watched it a while ago) but it's still one of my favorites.
