Description

From his radio operator's first horrified words, 'It's red, sir, air warning red,' to his terse descriptions of the shattering explosions, the screams of anguish, the smell of burning flesh, you are plunged into the heart of the action. The WG Charity takes complaints seriously and our detailed complaints procedure can be found here and our whistleblower procedure here.

With gripping recollections from his peers, Crispin Black casts an entirely new light on this dramatic part of the campaign that is often overlooked. Unfortunately we cannot offer a refund on custom prints unless they are faulty or we have made a mistake. Sadness, first of all, that the soldiers and sailors who served beneath our flag are still arguing so fiercely about this terrible tragedy — which, as agonising and avoidable as it was, would have been grimly familiar to the men who served in previous wars. The Welsh Guards regimental headquarters is distributing more than 100 free copies of Mr Black’s book to veterans who served in the conflict. There are surprises, there are times when you have to stop reading to reflect and ponder over a passage and digest precisely what you have just read… some passages are as powerful as any great poem….

The bloodiest event of the Falklands War for the British was the bombing of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Sir Galahad at Bluff Cove on June 8 1982, while crowded with soldiers from the Welsh Guards. Unfortunately, and probably understandably, the author runs the risk of undermining his otherwise careful analysis by indulging in some inter-service rivalry that has no place in such an analysis. In May 1982, eight young officers of the Welsh Guards—whose colonel-in-chief is the King—found themselves despatched at short notice to fight 8000. Biography: Crispin Black served as platoon commander of the Welsh Guards in the Falklands and survived the bombing of the HMS Sir Galahad. So all the men who served in that effort, whatever their badge, whatever their regiment, deserve our eternal gratitude.Until now, no one has told their story which included the fiercest attack on British troops since World War II when Britain lost half a battalion and the Argentine air force successfully bombed four navy ships at the tail end of the conflict. TikToker hunted by police over sickening pro-Palestine mice attacks at McDonald's restaurants in Birmingham. New book from Falklands war survivor sparks fresh controversy - were British soldiers left as sitting ducks in the attack on RFA Sir Galahad? In the final analysis, however, the circumstances that led to such a ‘butcher’s bill’, as Wellington would have it, are such as to demand the most thorough and objective investigation that spares nobody’s blushes, however senior.
