Description

Since early 2020, Dolly Alderton has been sharing her wisdom, warmth and wit with the countless people who have written in to her Dear Dolly agony aunt column in The Sunday Times Style. I did find the dating and friendship sections a little repetitive at times (possibly because I was reading in big chunks) but the great thing about this book is you can go back and forth between sections. Sent pictures of various pages to my friends and I know I’ll be referring back to it at times of need. They include breakups and body issues, families, friendships, dating, divorce, the pleasures and pitfalls of social media, sex, loneliness, longing, love and everything in between.

Dolly has an incredible ability to put herself in another person's shoes, something that sometimes seems so easy, but can actually turn out to be quite difficult. Although I didn't love Everything I Know About Love at the time I read it (and have already reached the conclusion that it was a matter of right book-wrong time), I really like Dolly's writing.A compendium of good advice from her Sunday Times columns, Dear Dolly is Dolly Alderton at her wise, warm and witty best. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Her writing is funny but also poignant and actually gives time to problems individuals have that may otherwise be dismissed as ‘pointless drivel’. Nothing like zooming through 50-odd advice columns on a Sunday evening to put all your worries about life at ease.

i’ve loved dolly’s previous 2 books: her memoir everything i know about love and her fiction debut ghosts, so i’m looking forward to whatever she does next. There's nothing groundbreaking or new here, but it's refreshing to read answers that urge readers to be true to themselves. Dear Dolly is a heartfelt collection of Dolly Alderton's favourite questions from her Dear Dolly column. Their questions range from the painfully – and sometimes hilariously – relatable to the occasionally bizarre. this book is made up of collected advice from dolly's sunday times agony aunt column, and as expected, each response blends empathy, humour and emotionally intelligent wisdom in a way that is so quintessentially dolly: comforting, light and reminiscent of having a long coffee with an old friend.

i look forward to dipping in and out of it the next time i find myself wishing i had a millennial big sister to bring me back down to earth. If you're looking for some encouragement and advice with issues in your life, then this meaningful book just might hit the spot. what I really loved in this was that her humor still shines through really well and I laughed out loud multiple times. You're experiencing something that will soften and harden you, give you strength and allow you to be weak.In fact, it’s not ‘pointless drivel’ when it is someone’s experience and Dolly treats these problems with respect, warmth and wit, which is exactly the type of writing I enjoy. i definitely recommend it when you are in need of an uplifting, meaningful work exploring many topics in a light-hearted but impactful manner.
