It is a good perfume, certainly smells like I spent more than I did, and it dries down to this lovely, peachy, powdery rose. If i had to imagine which fragrance Bette Davis wears in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane to better enter into the role I would definitely say this one: Diamonds and Rubies.

This isn't a dupe of anything, but I can see the similarities to Trésor Lancôme with peach, but this is rosier, with a powdery, carnation-leaning rose as the star of the show. They were originally sold as a gift set all together along with White Diamonds or as separate eau de parfum splash bottles in fitted cases which resembled jewelry cases. The peach note is really noticeable in this at the beginning, and it smells ripe, juicy and so much like real peach. I smell like i rubbed powder scented baby oil on me and then dumped unsweetened cocoa powder on top of that. Avon's Rare Rubies is a strength that is slightly less bold than EL's Cinnabar - and slightly bolder than ET's Diamonds and Rubies.

I'm never sure when a scent is marketed as an amber floral what it means, but this one offers a little something to everyone. Those then blend w/ that lush peach, spices, powdery heliotrope, other florals and that sweet vanilla to create soft, dark red velvet magic! The general smell of this is a sophisticated blend of the Winner's Circle Red Roses - and one of my all time favorite candies - Red Hots! It reminds me of sitting by a real fire, eating a rice pudding dish flavoured with vanilla and almonds). I can understand why there is no place for this little gem on the market and it is being discontinued. If actual rubies had a scent, this definitely would be it, captured to perfection; if someone who was blind and had never seen the gorgeous precious ruby stone, they would "see" it in their mind by smelling this! Diamonds and Rubies and Hermès Rouge share a certain uniqueness in that not many fragrances smell like this. I'll admit that when it settles down there's subtle spice, it actually reminds me a little of the smell of rooibos tea. While I smell all of these great elements in their turn, this perfume does not feel as potent as many of the perfumes I have listed; I would not be afraid to wear a spritz of this to an office as long as the weather wasn't too overbearingly warm.When I put this on for the first time I was playing Victor Young's Theme From A Place In The Sun which was the film Liz Taylor did with Montgomery Clift. Delicious and warm, spicy but sweet, floral and powdery with a glow, a ruby in the middle or heart of a diamond stone pendant, plunging into a bosom, which smells of Diamond and Rubies by Elizabeth Taylor. Top notes are Red Rose, Peach, Almond Wood, Lilac and Lily; middle notes are Rose, Spices, Heliotrope, Ylang-Ylang, Orchid, Jasmine and Lily-of-the-Valley; base notes are Vanilla, Sandalwood, Amber, Benzoin, Musk and Cedar. This would be overwhelming and almost cloying in the climates that I've lived in - in the summer where we have ranges from 95-112 degrees.
