The Resident Evil Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Collection* (includes all 6 films) ( US/ US Aussie import/UK) – 11/3/20 – REVIEW (We've reviewed the Random Space Media version of this set, which is essentially identical to the Sony release. It would be easy to draw the obvious parallels with Walter Hill’s underrated 1978 thriller, The Driver - which starred Ryan O’Neal, in a role originally envisioned for Steve McQueen, as a nameless getaway driver who barely says a word - as well as to McQueen’s own Bullitt, an atmospheric cop thriller featuring one of the greatest car chases of all time, which director Nicolas Winding Refn has acknowledged as an inspiration for this piece. The unexpected commercial success of Drive notwithstanding, Refn’s sensibilities were never meant for the mainstream. Europe's busiest forums, with independent news and expert reviews, for TVs, Home Cinema, Hi-Fi, Movies, Gaming, Tech and more. There are dreamlike qualities, nightmare aspects and a deep-seated menace that underpins the whole Hollywood angle – shining a light on all the seediness years before it came out.

It’s a gorgeous and natural presentation that captures the delicate textures of the film beautifully. The plot of Drive is rather simple; again trying to capitalize on the structural certainty of American road movies that were popular during that time, and it takes place right after the Chinese government took back control of Hong Kong.A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong. But after he meets Malik (Hardison), a bitter-yet-gregarious man on the outs with his wife, the duo team up. The disc-based content is identical to their gorgeous Limited Edition set that’s long out-of-print (more on that later). Core to the entire movie - to the point where you could almost watch it without dialogue - is the score from composer Cliff Martinez, which is just a work of genius.

It’s a lesson to other filmmakers that good pacing doesn’t necessarily require keeping things moving at all times. Eventually, all roads converge as Betty attempts to help Rita unlock the mysteries in her mind, possibly crossing the threshold between dreams and reality. Please keep in mind that TBA titles and dates are ESTIMATES based on best-available information from sources and are NOT to be considered official until the studios in question make their respective announcements. Refn's visual eye transcends even the minuscule shooting budget here, keeping things real and low-key, shooting from within vehicles, capturing precision driving (some done by Gosling himself), and finely balancing evocatively stylish mood shots with his trademark outbursts of unprecedented violence (it's all very Cronenberg/ History of Violence here, with Refn approaching Irreversible's Gasper Noe for tips! The 118-minute runtime is chock full of sequences that flex both Dacascos’ martial arts mastery and Steve Wang’s mastery of the montage cut.I have 4 drives now - two Asus and one LG that are BDXL compatible and then the LG NS60, which is official. To borrow a term from Thomas Harris, most of Refn’s films have been about Becoming, as his characters usually undergo a metamorphosis of some kind throughout their stories. The color palette is lush, with exceptional uses of red, green, and blue, while skin tones are much more accurate.

Much of the credit can be laid at the feet of Naomi Watts, who was mostly unknown at the time she was cast in the film, giving a powerhouse performance that launched her career. Not to mention that Drive elided the American buddy action movie formula with high-flying, Hong Kong-styled hijinks in a way we rarely (if ever) see. This is the exact same disc as the Criterion release in the US; just in case anyone is in any doubt, the Criterion logo boots up before the film starts. Back to Mulholland Drive – A 24 minute dissection of the film that follows David Lynch’s ‘ten clues’ to understanding the film. Dolby Atmos is not the best around in this one in general, but it's the best audio track you'll ever get for this film.Intensely atmospheric, Drive adopts cool retro beats and superior stylisation to create a memorable film noir and veritable modern classic. In the end, all of it worked to Lynch’s advantage as Mulholland Drive was very well-received when it was released, earning him an Oscar nod for best director, but also putting Naomi Watts on the map. He dreams of a better life, but getting in bed with the mob will end up putting everyone on a collision course that will put all of their lives at risk. This is the first Second Sight Films transfer I've seen, so let's see how many enemies I can make:) I'm a big fan of this movie and absolutely love the style.
