Miller's further development of his singing voice, rapping, live instrumentation, and sincere, personal lyrical material is what it features. Conceived as a sister album to 2018's full length Swimming, the album was completed with the assistance of Jon Brion, with whom Miller worked on Swimming and had been working together on Circles at the time of his passing. A very difficult listen in so much as many of the tracks are so bleak and honest it serves as a reminder to me that this is the voice of a lost great, likely still approaching his creative peak but hauntingly lays bare his own weaknesses, depression, and foreboding that his time may be limited through his own addictions and vulnerabilities. Mac was unfortunately a true product of our society yet at the same time an absolutely astounding wordsmith and musician. And in the same year that he toured the US backed by a psychedelic soul band, he rapped all over Europe with Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz.

I’ve loved Mac from the beginning of his career, early mixtapes and freestyles, and watched him flourish with every project he put out, finishing with this to sadly cap off a career and soul that will never be forgotten. From "Surf's" T-Rex guitar sound to its production's atmosphere of John Lennon during the Plastic Ono Band era to its inspired cover of "Everybody's Gotta Live," an Arthur Lee song from 1972.Made in the EU" printed on back cover and LP labels, yet runouts indicate GZ Media plating (in Czech Republic) and Precision Record Pressing manufacturing (in Canada). Not by any manner of means an album for the casual listeners, this is something that to truly be able to fit into some kind of perspective, one would have to go back to Macs mixtape beginnings and his ascending through the ranks and big label cd releases, listen to the maturation of his lyrical, vocal and musical abilities and understand that Mac, like many of us, was not a broken soul, but was a product of western society.
