Combine the wet and dry ingredients together. It is going to take quite a bit of mixing to get it to your dough-like consistency. The finished mixture is going to feel a little too wet for a bubble bar, just trust that it will harden up for you. I did some research, tried out a few options, and have some good ones for you listed below. Scroll down even further and you’ll see some DIY options that you can whip together for a safe and sudsy good time.

You’re never to old to enjoy a good bubble party! I like to add a few drops of Lavender, Peace & Calming, Chamomile or Stress Away essential oil to my baths for added therapeutic effect. How About You? I crumbled half of this bubble bar into the bath. The bubble bar itself looks so solid and it is, but when crumbled has a softer texture to it. It created bubbles straight away while it was thrown under the warm running water. I was actually surprised how many bubbles were created and how soft, fluffy and airy they were! Underneath the surface the bath was a shade of soft pink. Overall a very inviting bath to look at. The “hygiene hypothesis” states that too few exposures to bacteria and pathogens in early childhood may interfere with proper immune system development. Studies have found that too frequent bathing may indeed lead to asthma, eczema and even diabetes and leukemia. Add all of the dry ingredients (baking soda, citric acid, SLSa, and cream of tartar) to a bowl and mix lightly with a whisk. Polysorbate 80: Polysorbate 80 is an emulsifier. We need an emulsifier to disperse the oils and fragrance throughout the bath water. Otherwise, it would all just pool on the top of your bath water.

Kind of a downer epilogue to a bubble bath post, eh? But, in moderation, bubble baths can be healthy and super fun. Mommy likes a good bubble bath, too! Baking Soda and Citric Acid: We use the baking soda and citric acid to create the base for the dough and to cause a fizzing when introduced to water. The fizzing helps to break up the solid bubble bar into the water. My mom used JOY soap for the bubbles, but hey, it was the 80s. Baby Genevieve holding a bottle of JOY Kokum Butter: Kokum butter is a hard brittle butter that helps our bubble bar hold its shape. You can swap this out for cocoa butter.

To remove from the mold, you can push in the center of the mold. However, that leaves a little dent in the center of the strawberries. The other way to get them out (without the dent) is to pull on the sides of the mold to help release it. Then tip it upside down (while pulling the sides apart). The strawberry bubble bars will pop out. The Cream of Tartar is used to help harden the bubble bar and to help hold the ingredients together so our bars don’t fall apart.Coco Glucoside is our secondary surfactant. It is compatible with anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants. We use this to improve the foam (makes the bubbles more stable and last longer) and to help with wetting the mixture to make a “dough”. Our skin actually houses good bacteria that shouldn’t be washed away too often. That’s why skin-to-skin touching is so important to newborns who are developing their microbiome. You are going to pinch off a piece of the bubble bath and hold it under the running faucet to create bubbles. Sometimes if the bar feels too hard, you will have to rub your hand together under the water to help it soften up a bit. In a large container mix together the dry ingredients (SLSa, baking soda, cream of tartar, arrowroot powder, and kaolin clay). The SLSa is a very fine powder and you may want to wear a face mask when adding it.

Don’t be fooled: Many natural bubble bath options are pure but don’t create big or lasting bubbles. You’d be better saving your money and using a simple olive oil bar. Another option is to make your own bubble bath! This is great for the DIY-ers or folks who want to make 100% sure their bubble bath is toxin-free. In a small container mix together the wet ingredients (vegetable glycerin, coco glucoside, polysorbate 80, fragrance oil and melted cocoa butter) until they are fully combined. The fragrance oil that I am using for these bubble bars is Sugared Strawberry Fragrance Oil it is a sweet strawberry scent. The strawberry scent is enhanced by light notes of sweet nectar, green apples, and grape.

Whisk all ingredients together. Drizzle under running water while filling the bath. Moisturizing Honey Bubble Bath Vegetable Glycerin is a humectant, which means that it draws moisture to its self. We add this to the bubble bars because it will hold the moisture on the bubbles and make them last longer. Vegetable Glycerin: We use vegetable glycerin to make the bars a little more moldable and less likely to break apart. It is also a humectant, which means that it will draw moisture to itself. Take out a small portion of the strawberry bubble bar mixture for the green tops of the strawberries. Add a green mica powder and mix well.

Same old story: Most of the bubble bath soaps on the market contain some really terrible ingredients… parabens, fragrances, even formaldehyde. Yep. SLSa: SLSa is a natural surfactant that is derived from coconut and palm oils. You will want to be sure to wear a a mask when handling, as the powder gets into the air easily. Once the bubble bars have dried, you will want to store them in an air tight container or wrap them with a shrink wrap. IngredientsBut should that obstacle stand in the way of a natural mama and her kids’ bath time? Not in my household. Add the melted butters and the remaining wet ingredients (vegetable glycerin, polysorbate 80, fractionated coconut oil and strawberry fragrance oil) to your oils.
