When the Canadian Government Used “Gay Detectors” to Try to Get Rid of Homosexual Government Employees Rural environments are not inherently harmful to LGBTQ+ people in the same way that urban environments are not inherently welcoming by sheer virtue of having a greater population density and number of buildings. Photography by Meg McGrady for their project on queers and rurality, Away With The Fairies Dafydd has short blonde hair, and often wears tight fitting clothes, usually made of lycra or PVC vinyl. He also wears a few pieces of jewelery.

The actual Y.M.C.A, were initially unhappy with the Village People using their name in their song and attempted to sue the group, reportedly because executives took exception to group’s overwhelmingly gay following at that point. The suit was eventually settled out of court. What makes this particularly hilarious is that around the same time the Navy was allowing a group representing certain facets of gay culture to sing aboard a Navy frigate about the navy being a place “Where you can find pleasure…”- with original intent to use this music video in Navy recruitment ad campaigns- they were spending millions of dollars attempting to route out any gay people from their ranks… These efforts included a hilariously inept search for a woman named Dorothy, who they were convinced knew every gay person in the military. Although Daffyd's family are perfectly fine and accepting of their sons homosexuality, even they are not immune from Daffyd's delusions or his biased and hypocritical opinions. Alongside almost everybody he meets, they to have been insulted/bullied by him. Examples include:- As a result of this, many Little Britain fans have come to the conclusion that Daffyd is just pretending to be gay and isn't actually homosexual at all. They believe that Daffyd's claims are a result of his narcissistic attitude. Thomas wants to stand out, make everybody pay attention to him and to be viewed/regarded as special. As a community that resists binaries, we are still internalising and – often unintentionally – perpetuating a harmful dichotomy: be miserable in the countryside, or come to the city and thrive. Both of these are not only gross simplifications of the diverse queer experiences that exist, but also serve to reinforce classist and ableist notions of success. The village I grew up in had a Church and a road. There is a corner shop now, but that is new. There is no infrastructure. Growing up, I literally could not go anywhere without my parents taking me.” Photography by Meg McGrady for their project on queers and rurality: Away With The Fairies

He called an altar boy that said hello to him a "queer basher" following a failed 'Hamlet' audition. In fact in most of the episodes that followed this one Dafydd would act as if people he passed/met in the street had made harsh comments about him, whilst said people were actually shown to be open and friendly towards him. When Dewi admitted to Dafydd that he was homosexual, Dafydd refused to accept it. He asked Dewi if he could be bisexual, which Dewi, Pedro and Myfanwy strongly denied.

Growing up, the only ties I had to London queers was through people who squatted, which definitely opened my eyes a lot as a young teenager, but my health was declining a lot and the spaces no longer became accessible to me. Alice
