The hoods are easy to pull in and out though and each has a clear peek-a-boo window to make it easier to interact with your children when on the move. Is there a rain cover? There are no dangerous gaps or clips that little fingers can reach. While Liz felt that some of the other side-by-side buggies she tested – such as the Chicco Echo Twin Stroller and Out n About Nipper Double – didn’t offer enough support for her youngest (five months) when fully reclined, the padded seats on the Mountain Buggy Duet V3.2 are exceptionally comfy for younger babies – though she did use her own newborn cocoon for added cosiness. The Mountain Buggy Duet V3.2 comes with four 10-inch (25cm) air-filled tyres, which are designed to give a smooth ride over bumpy ground. Our tester felt the handling was outstanding on all terrain. Read next: How to clean a pram, including tried-and-tested tips from Mumsnetters Best double buggies at a glance The Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Double is a lightweight double stroller that caters well to both babies and toddlers.

Now in its seventh generation, the iCandy Peach is a super versatile tandem buggy. Whether you want to use it as a single pram, a double buggy or a pushchair for twins, the pram offers up to 25 different configurations using seats, car seats and carrycots. Many parents love that side-by-side double buggies mean there’s no squabbling over who sits at the front. But they can also make a day out to the shops with your children harder if you’re struggling to squeeze between shop doors or get on the bus.The pram comes with two world-facing seats that can be used from birth, but the Baby Jogger also takes up to two carrycots, which are cosy, easy to pop on and off, and can be collapsed when not in use. The seats are deep and each has an infinite recline, a decent hood and an adjustable calf rest. Age range: Newborn to four years | Maximum load: 15kg in each seat | Product weight: 10.5kg | Dimensions: 63 × 66.5 × 25cm (folded); 94.5 × 66.5 × 102.5cm (unfolded) | Travel system-compatible: No | Orientation: Side by side What we love We tasked busy mum-of-two Liz with putting the double buggies through their paces. At Mumsnet, we believe like-for-like comparisons are the fairest and most consistent way to test products because each one is tested by the same person in the same scenarios for at least a week. The Mountain Buggy Duet V3.2 is the latest update on the Duet, a side-by-side double buggy that can initially be bought as a single to later grow with your family.

Value for money: taking all of the above into account, we wanted to know if it was worth the price tag and whether this was a pram that Liz would recommend to other parents. Each of the buggies was given a score for each area and when the final tallies were in, the awards were given to the six highest performing prams with the Mountain Buggy Duet V3.2 emerging as the best overall double buggy to buy for babies, twins and toddlers. About the author The folding mechanism is fairly simple to get to grips with and, when folded, the buggy is compact and easy to store, both in a car boot and at home.

Measuring just 66.5cm wide and weighing in at only 10.5kg, it’s very much geared towards urban life, fitting through most doorways with the ability to be wheeled in and out of your home.

Even though it’s one of the slimmest side-by-sides on the market, the Duet's seats can each take up to 18kg and are spacious enough to last up to age four. The frame and fabric feel high-quality and, with the brilliant handling of this pram on all terrain, we think you get what you pay for. Final verdict The Duet comes with a frame, two seats, two sunshades, four wheels, a storage basket, a bumper bar and a bottle holder. Age range: Newborn to 4 years | Maximum load: 22kg per seat | Weight: 12.8kg | Dimensions: 72 × 96 × 119cm (unfolded); 72 × 42 × 90cm (folded with wheels on); 71 × 36 × 79cm (folded with wheels off) | Travel system-compatible: No | Orientation: Side by side What we love You’ll need a bicycle pump to inflate the tyres, but the buggy is simple to assemble. It took our tester, mum of two Liz, just a few minutes to attach the wheels to the chassis, and to clip on the individual sunshades and bumper bar. Chicco’s Echo Twin Stroller is the double version of the popular Echo and, although basic, there’s a lot to like about it.I chose it because I wanted my children so they could both see out. It fits through doorways fine. I love that I can take it on any terrain. It is much better off-road than my single one, so it's opened up more walks for us. It feels lovely to push and it fits in the boot of my small car. It’s very practical. It is a good price, too." Unfortunately you won’t find a rain cover inside (more on that below), which is one of the main downsides to this buggy and one that may be a deal-breaker for some parents.

protect™ infant car seat provides protection, versatility and comfort for your baby while offering convenience on the buggy or in the car. Age range: Newborn (with carrycot) to 4 years (or age 7 in single mode) | Maximum load: 15kg per seat (or 25kg in single mode) | Weight: 12.9kg (in double mode) | Dimensions: 70 × 61 × 29cm (folded); seat unit 88 x 36 x 23 (unfolded) | Orientation: Tandem (world- and parent-facing) | Travel system-compatible: Yes What we love Great for off-roading and trails, fits through any standard doorway, so it’s been fine in shops or on the train. Folds pretty flat. Very comfy to push. Good resale value! We’ve had ours three years and still going strong!" A double buggy that caters for all your family’s needs, the Mountain Buggy Duet V3.2 can easily nip around supermarket aisles and fit through doorways while still being spacious enough for your child to rest and grow comfortably. I wanted something that could convert to a double when I needed it to, rather than have both seats all the time. It’s great for all-terrain and has been on many muddy forest walks. The basket is huge and it's a very sturdy buggy that never tips up. I also like how the handlebar can extend up, which is good for when the toddler's on the buggy board. I also like that I can use it as a travel system and put the car seat on it if I just want to nip into a shop. The only thing I would say is it is quite heavy when both kids are in it... and it does take a lot of space up in the boot."Day-to-day usage: we ensured the pram was tested on all kinds of terrain looking at how the wheels performed, how easy it was to push, turn, fit through doorways and lift over kerbs or bumps. We also tested the fold mechanism and looked at where it could be stored. We carried out a storage basket test and assessed the seats, such as the recline option and whether you can add a carrycot or car seat. We also tested the effectiveness of the hood and rain cover.
