These boots performed highly in every test we threw at them, and we're confident they'll keep you dry and happy I don’t usually go for white snow boots—anyone who has trudged through the streets of Toronto in mid-February can attest to how filthy they would get—but I couldn’t resist this particular cream-coloured pair with its shearling, red lace and rubber sole combo. I like how the boots have a bit of a chunky look to them, almost like moon boots but not so in-your-face. The attention to detail in the design was also a huge draw: The mixed materials, textures and patterns make for something a little more visually interesting compared to my usual winter boots, which tend to be dark in colour and purely utilitarian. I actually looked forward to the first snow, so I could take them for a spin. The review Arch: We don't want to get annoyingly complicated, but you actually have three arches (medial, lateral, and transverse). However, when people talk about arches, they're generally talking about their medial arch. You can have "higher" or "lower" arches, but this doesn't matter too much when it comes to your rain boots, and we don't want to get too far into this. If you experience significant arch pain or struggle with plantar fasciitis, please go see a doctor, research foot strengthening exercises, and/or think about supplemental insoles (with the help of a footwear expert). This style is on the shorter side, so they’re not ideal for when you haven’t shovelled the two feet of snow in front of your door, but they are water-resistant, so the snow just slides right off. The boots with the lowest scores did not keep our feet warm at all and almost instantly cooled our feet to discomfort. Those models were the Hunter and XTRATUF Legacy 15" boots, both of which feature thin rubber and no insulation. Their low scores in this category are not disqualifying, though — poor insulation makes them strong candidates for use in reliably warm and wet weather. On the other side of the spectrum, the Arctic Sport is the reigning champion and lasted 20 minutes in the ice test. The Bogs Workman came in second and kept our feet warm enough until 18 minutes into the ice bath. The Kamik Forester was another standout for warmth.

Foot Volume: How much foot material do you have? This is determined by your bone structure and the height of your foot — do you have a high-volume foot or a low-volume foot? This is more of an informal spectrum — footwear shops don't have a way to easily measure this, but it's a good variable to keep in mind. If you often get heel blisters (like our testers do), chances are you have low-volume feet. And if you often have trouble fitting into shoes, you probably have wider, higher-volume feet. I really enjoy the look of these, but I do wonder how the shearling and suede details will end up looking after a full season of wear. They’re almost too precious to wear on the days when it gets really slushy and gross out, even though they are purposely designed for harsh weather conditions. We love the Arctic Sport for their heavy insulation, extra-tall shaft, and secure-feeling weight, but they're also quite uncomfortable when you're just strolling around town on a warm fall day. Our feet began to sweat immediately when we wore them in temperatures above 40 degrees. While the tighter shaft keeps the warm air in, you'll have to reach down to put them on and take them off. For a more comfortable boot that's easy to pull on and off, take a look at the Bogs Classic Ultra High. The Arctic Sport boots are for you if you are out in truly inclement weather. If you are not, consider a more casual boot. When I pulled these out of the box, I was really surprised at how light they were; they basically flew up into my hand with the lightest pull. My other snow boots are much, much heavier, and while I do feel like that gives you some stability on icy days, there’s something super appealing about being light on your feet. The cream colour was also so light and bright, the (vegan) shearling upper adds the nicest cozy feel, and there’s a really intricate cable-knit-effect rim around the top edge of the super-chunky sole. A lot of design detail went into these boots. The review I’d describe these as Chelsea boots reimagined for the elements. The traditional leather is replaced with rubber, the elastic portion swapped for neoprene and the lug sole is extra-chunky. The result is kind of “under-cover sporty,” a perfect balance of fashion and function, that looks just as good with a puffer and leggings as it does with jeans and a camel coat. The review

The feet contain no big muscles to produce heat during exercise, just lots of fiddly tendons and ligaments Indulge in a slice of British heritage with a pair of Hunter boots. The brand has been creating durable yet timeless footwear since 1856, with two Royal Warrants of Appointment making it a national treasure. The designs in our collection take inspiration from the rugged landscapes of England and Scotland, with a focus on innovative materials such as vulcanised rubber to protect against the elements. I wore these boots during the first snowy weekend, mostly to walk my dog. I found them to be super comfortable and pleasantly warm. There’s a neat drawstring at the top of the boot that allows you to tighten it around your leg to keep the heat in more effectively, which I’m sure I’ll appreciate as the temperatures continue to drop. I also really enjoy that the inside is lined with fleece! Very soft and great for when I’m walking to a workout class in leggings and don’t want to expose my legs to the cold. This impressive boot will keep you toasty when all else fails, though they'll be far too warm for normal conditions For some reason, people tend to ignore foot pain and assume that it's somehow inevitable. Let's be clear: foot pain can be solved. It can be complicated, but it's worth taking the time. Help us change the trend! If you suffer from foot pain, take this category seriously. Rain boots (and shoes in general) aren't supposed to hurt you, and some of the models we tested are a genuine pleasure to wear. Consider supplemental insoles, and if you've got a lot of trouble with your feet, please see a doctor or physical therapist; both will help dramatically. Take it from us; happy feet will improve your life.

While we love many of the innovative aspects of these boots, we wish they could provide more support underfoot Close your eyes and imagine yourself wearing a rain boot. You're probably picturing something similar to the Baffin Enduro. With a height of 16.25 inches, the Enduro's rubber shaft and solidly lugged outsole will keep you warm and dry in even the wettest and worst conditions. Because of their large circumference, you can easily slip into and out of these boots, and their price-to-performance ratio is unbeatable.
