I think we just kept doing what we were doing really, really well which is being there for the students, making sure that we are I guess, focusing on students as individuals and helping them through their own journey and also teachers have been in a similar boat in many ways and they were able to show their own vulnerability and help students sort of think, well we’re all in this together, I know that’s kind of the slogan at the moment, but it’s so true. For example, in the Netherlands, 31% of LBTQ+ women reported that they are fully closeted as compared to 17% of GBTQ+ men. But there’s lots of other things happening in our students lives, they’re becoming more independent.

A recent study in Southeast Asia, for example, found that 90% of employees with underrepresented diverse identities said that they would leave a company if it lacked leadership commitment to inclusion and diversity, and the equivalent figure looking across all staff was 57%. For me, it’s something I remember so clearly from my own experiences which is in the dark ages I know, but I think it’s fairly similar to what happens to so many students today and that is you’re going from a kind of, type of high school culture, which is so different with smaller classes, knowing most people in the classrooms to sort of you know, lectures with five hundred or more people, quite large tutorials.
