Unfortunately, it’s neither cheap nor capable of rendering colours as accurately as UltraMax. It has charm and applications, but you can’t use it the same way as consumer colour films. Additionally, the rolls I got did not have DX coding, rendering NC 500 unusable on most point-and-shoot cameras . If you have a camera or photography shop near you that keeps a good selection of film, they should really have some Portra 400. The only reason they wouldn’t is that they’ve sold out. It comes in a 5-roll box but any shop worth their salt should let you buy single rolls from open boxes too.

Kodak Tri-X 35mm is a truly legendary film. Film Details

Finally for this section, there’s a Portra 400 datasheet right here that gives you more information than I care to parrot, although I will relay some impressive-sounding highlights. You can see straight away that Ultramax is indeed more sensitive to light, across the spectrum - which corresponds to it's higher ISO. And you can also see that the shape of the yellow curve is slightly more uniform across its peak. Quite how much quality drop-off there’ll be at the extreme ends of this, I don’t know. But it’s useful to have if your scenes have a lot of contrast or you’re using a camera with no built-in light meter.

Grain, resolution, and sharpness. As the ISO increases, Portra films appear to show sharper but also larger grain. It is not necessary to store films in the fridge, as long as where you're storing them is of a cool enough temperature. However some people prefer to, and feel it keeps their films fresher for longer.Wide Exposure Latitude: Embrace the freedom to push or pull your film's exposure, thanks to its wide latitude.
