Honeycomb Aeronautical’s Alpha Flight Controls XPC is a new and improved version of their inaugural Alpha yoke. the “reverse range” on the throttle axes is implemented as a button that is simply either on when the throttle is negative or off if it’s not.

You’ll quickly realize that the elevator feels significantly heavier than the ailerons, which are very light. A big change in the Alpha XPC in comparison to the first version of the yoke is the spring-loaded ignition switch. Features include high quality construction, numerous configurable buttons and switches, customisable throttles for either single engine prop, multi engine prop or Jet and Gear, trim and Flaps. They must be actuated in tandem (for safety reasons, in a real aircraft, in case one fails), but can also be programmed for other functions. I wanted to fly on the VATSIM network but was scared that the mouse yoke would be too hard to control.Honeycomb also developed an Xbox hub (available separately), which can be used to connect other Honeycomb products such as the Bravo Throttle Quadrant and Charlie Rudder Pedals. but it does have Xbox compatibility, improved sensors, and that new design with the spring-loaded ignition. It features a NEW front grill design, a full 180° yoke rotation with upgraded hall effect sensors to provide smooth precision with no centre detent. The LED light panel may not be of any particular use and it’s definitely not supposed to augment the realism factor of using this yoke, but it looks cool. So when Honeycomb’s CEO, Nicki Repenning, approached us with the exciting news that the development of the upgraded Alpha XPC yoke was complete, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to find out more.

The redesigned ignition switch has five positions for the magnetos: Off, Left, Right, Both and a spring-loaded start position. Both solutions work very well, although with the suction cup the ‘stickiness’ can be lost due to dust or dirt. One other thing I should mention is that you cannot run XPLANE11 at all on a Linux system unless you load drivers for your video card. Alpha Flight Control XPC is designed to work with any aircraft equipped with a yoke, including airliners, turboprops and business jets. Pitch and roll movements are extremely smooth, with fluid control forces around the center position. Yeah, I’m not aware of any product on the market that does what I really want there, which is a servo-actuated wheel that takes feedback from the sim when the autopilot is driving or you use the electric trim buttons.

It is however possible to separate the base from the yoke and rinse it under water to remove any particles.

The yoke turned out to be a huge success, so much so that Honeycomb had big problems keeping up with demand during the Covid-19 pandemic, which coincided with the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator and the consequential boost that it gave to the flight simulation hardware industry.
