Feliway Cystease should be taken orally, either given whole or broken open and mixed with food, and it is recommended that it should be used with Feliway to achieve the best results.

I found it took around a month for the Cystease to start to have an effect - it needs time to sooth the bladder walls so 2 weeks isn't very long. Cystitisis a very common and distressing condition affecting the cat. It is associated with the following signs: And I am sorry but your vet is wrong about the Metacam dosage and there are many (many) recent studies not he use of meloxicam in small animals (rabbits. rats, guinea pigs, etc) that prove this. What I want to know is - do I *have* to give him the Metacam? As far as I can tell, it's a painkiller used after feline surgery rather than an antibiotic, and he doesn't appear to be in any pain - he hasn't strained for a wee, he's active and happy which is a massive improvement on yesterday morning. I stupidly googled Metacam and was instantly hit with stories on cat death, so at the minute I'm really against giving it to him - 5kg is almost half a syringe full.

How does it work?

Ceva have launched Feliway Cystease, a new urinary tract support supplement for cats. An elaboration on the original product, Cystease S, the new version contains N-acetyl glucosamine, L-tryptophan and Hyaluronic Acid. When cats have cystitis it means that their bladders are inflamed. Feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC) describes cystitis which has an unexplained medical cause. It is a really common condition and is not normally a serious health concern, but can be very uncomfortable for your cat. Lucy also only had blood in her urine right at the start. Even during the occasional flare up blood was never seen, and I don't think this is uncommon. It isn't easy reading if you aren't familiar with scientific papers, but this is a good place to start covering dosages, bioavaibility and long term effects of high dose Metacam in guinea pigs: L-tryptophan - an amino acid precursor to serotonin which is known to have a calming and relaxing effect.

When managing this condition it is important to look at measures to help restore the bladder lining and, where possible, reduce and eliminate stress factors. I know I'm probably overreacting about giving him the Metacam, but I truly don't know what to do - I don't want to give it to him, but if he does need it I don't want to deny him. (I am currently waiting to speak to the vet about it, but I just want to know if anyone can give me advice as I'm very impatient! ) FIC is more common in younger felines and episodes tend to reduce with age. FIC is different from a bladder infection, bladder stones or more serious urinary tract conditions, but can often present the same symptoms. What causes feline idiopathic cystitis in cats? Im hoping this is just a one off, nothing has changed here as far as i know but a few days before he got ill we came home and he was very jumpy and didn't want to come out of his hiding place so i don't know what happened, my girls were fine though, maybe they ganged up on him, god knows he chases them enough. If Finn's having a problem with repeat infections in his bladder I would also give him Waterfall D-Mannose which is great at mopping up any bacteria hanging around in the bladder. We aim to be as flexible as possible when it comes to your easy-repeat deliveries and you can update the following information at any point. Also, am I right in thinking that the Cystease are antibiotics? He has 30 of them but I wasn't told how long I had to give them for.

You also have the functionality to pause your subscription on easy repeat, simply go to ‘My Account’ to do this. If you find that you are receiving your deliveries too often, or not often enough, you can alter the frequency of your easy-repeat deliveries.

Cystitis in cats top facts

Most cats will normally have another episode, but there are steps you can take to limit this possibility. Stress reduction is the best way to prevent repeat problems. How can I reduce my cat’s anxiety or stress? Your boy is gorgeous - honestly I think silver agoutis are my absolute favourite guinea pig colour.

Stress is thought to be the most significant cause of cystitis in cats, so there is lots owners can do to help Stress is thought to be the most significant cause of FIC in cats. This is because anxiety has been proven to cause a special layer of the bladder which protects it against the harsh chemicals in urine to become patchy. Pheromone therapyThe study above also talks about the half life of Metacam in guinea pigs and shows it is metabolised very rapidly and will not offer effective pain relief if only given once every 24 hours. Feline cystitis means that your cat's bladder is inflamed and when it is called idiopathic cystitis it means that there is an underlying unexplained reason for its cause. It is a very common condition and is not always a serious health concern but we always recommend you chat to your vet about it. WHY WOULD THIS BE RELATED TO FELIWAY CLASSIC? Don't loose hope - you are definitely on the right path, but you also need to be patient. This can be a fairly long journey to achieve a good result.
