About this deal

My first thought was that it looked like the viruses I had studied back in school, or perhaps an alien spaceship a la War of the Worlds. The cooperation was built on the company’s will to create eco-friendly, contemporary plastic furniture and the designer's particular style. The cool space-inspired design was designed by Philippe Starck 1988 on a pizza napkin during a holiday by the sea in Italy.

For design enthusiasts who want to have fun, feeling like Alice in a world of great huge design objects, to impress with a decidedly unconventional piece of furniture: Juicy Salif has never been a bigger icon. Created in 1988, the lemon squeezer made from aluminum casting is one of PhilippeStarck's first projects for Alessi. One of the most iconic designs of our time, the transparent Louis Ghost chair, was one of the results of the cooperation with Kartell. Alberto Alessi was surprised and intrigued when he received the design for this lemon juicer from Philippe Starck. Inventor, creator, architect, designer, artistic director, Philippe Starck is certainly all of the above, but more than anything else he is an honest man directly descended from the Renaissance artists. Both now are collectors' items, though an urban legend perpetuates the idea that the anthracite version is rarer than the gold-plated one. This groundbreaking citrus juicer was one of the first items Philippe Starck designed for Alessi and still remains as popular today as it was when it was first launched. The company specialises in the design and production of authentic Italian-inspired kitchenware, tableware, cookware, glassware and home decorations. Classic/Fantastic: Selections from the Modern Design Collection," December 21, 2007–April 5, 2009, no catalogue. Twenty five years on, the napkin is now in the Alessi Museum and housed within the permanent collection at MoMA, New York.

A citrus squeezer as revolutionary as it is, is a surprisingly functional design in simplistic form by Philippe Starck on a pizzeria napkin during a seaside holiday in Italy. Philippe Starck, world famous creator with multifaceted inventiveness, is always focused on the essential, his vision: that creation, whatever form it takes, must improve the lives of as many people as possible. The user data collected is anonymous for us and thus does not allow us to draw any conclusions about the user identity. Exaggerated and unexpected, the Juicy Salif becomes a design sculpture that delights the mind with an unexpected change of scale.

I came by this somehow – jumble sale maybe – and it is wonderful and so practical – it stands over a glass, a cup , in a bowl – just the best and satisfying to use and easy to clean too.

The Juicy Salif citrus squeezer , now described by its creator as a small allien who came to visit our homes is truly an iconic object. Starck took his inspiration from a dish of squid with lemon and drew sketches of Juicy Salif on a pizzeria mat.The thousands of projects - complete or forthcoming - his global fame and tireless protean inventiveness should never distract from Philippe Starck's fundamental vision: Creation, whatever form it takes, must improve the lives of as many people as possible. In conclusion, Alessi has established itself as a leading brand in the world of design, offering a unique blend of functionality, aesthetics, and innovation. It is beautiful to look at while being eerily reminiscent of a Martian tripod from "The War of the Worlds". Alessi's success lies in its ability to collaborate with some of the most talented designers from around the world. This distinctive elongated shape is inspired by the shape of a squid, which came to Starck when squeezing lemon juice over some calamari in a pizzeria whilst on holidays in Italy.Juicy Salif, a citrus reamer designed by Philippe Starck in 1990, is considered an icon of industrial design, and has been displayed in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art [1] and the Metropolitan Museum of Art [2] in New York City, as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Over the years, the brand has partnered with renowned names like Philippe Starck, Alessandro Mendini, and Stefano Giovannoni, among others. The sleek, exotic-looking shape was inspired by a calamari squid; the original drawings were sketched on a pizza-stained paper placemat. From everyday products, furniture and lemon squeezers, to revolutionary mega yachts, hotels that stimulate the senses, phantasmagorical venues and individual wind turbines, he never stops pushing the limits and criteria of contemporary design.
