Move over Jason Bourne. CIA operative Kane redefines the smart but vulnerable bad ass super spy in this dazzling cat-and-mouse thriller where the entire globe is a chessboard, and everyone’s playing for keeps' Lisa Gardner Born in Sussex, England, Hayes moved to Australia at the age of 5. [1] He began his career as a journalist, working as the US correspondent for the Australian newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald. [1] Family [ edit ] The book’s synopsis reads: “If, like Kane, you’re a Denied Access Area spy for the CIA, then boundaries have no meaning. Your function is to go in, do whatever is required, and get out again – by whatever means necessary. You know when to run, when to hide – and when to shoot.

I wasn’t surprised that the crowd had reacted with silence. It has been my misfortune to witness a number of executions – several by firing squad, two by hanging and one when an elderly man had been strapped into an electric chair and forced to ‘ride the lightning’, as the guards on death row call it – and I can promise you: the terror on the face of a man or woman as everything they had hoped to be vanishes into eternity never leaves you. The memory of it will surface at 3 a.m. when everything you fear most in the world is on its way, coming up the stairs to find you. Be interesting to see how it sells. Unfortunately I won’t be recommending it but then I won’t deter people who want to buy it.Ben Coes, New York Times bestselling author of international espionage thrillers featuring Dewey Andreas

Transworld has unveiled Terry Hayes’ second novel, The Year of the Locust, scheduled for publication on 9th November 2023. Readers of the likes of Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum – and of course if you’ve not already read I Am Pilgrim you should do so at once! There was plenty with which to find fault – nobody would say that Hayes, best known previously as a screenwriter on Mad Max films in the 1980s, is a master of style or characterisation – but there was something elemental about the book, a rare sense that the outcome of its contests of brain and brawn really mattered. This is a book for a Terry Hayes fan more than an I Am Pilgrim fan but you have to read it to understand what I mean by saying this. You also have to go in very open-minded.Advances in technology are, however, starting to make their efforts more precise. Drones with elastic launchers, which can travel hundreds of kilometres while mapping areas of greenery have been added to the defence arsenal. Then there’s the role of Cressman’s office, which guides the country teams using remote sensing imagery. Needless to say, that realization fuelled the frustration of the expensively tailored man in our corner office and encouraged him to redouble the agency’s efforts to find him. Believe me, there has never been a shortage of testosterone at the highest levels of the intelligence world.
