About this deal

We found the coffee produced was great for a pod machine – there was even a good amount of crema on top.

Thankfully, we had no issues during set-up and found the controls were intuitive and quick to respond.

The Barista Touch Impress takes care of every part of the process for you, as it has an inbuilt burr grinder and bean hopper, along with hands-free, automated grinding and an easy-to-use touchscreen display.

Designed to demystify the process of making espresso at home, this machine offers value for money and proves that good things come in small packages. Plus, when we made three espressos in a row, it delivered the same quality coffee with just the right amount of crema each time, so you’re guaranteed a consistent cuppa – even if you go back for second helpings. There is also a steam wand to create foams and hot milk – we did find that perhaps due to the plastic filter, it didn’t warm the milk quite so effectively. It produces excellent espresso from Lavazza’s compostable pods, with plenty of customization options and drink settings available via the companion app. Baristas tend to use between 15 to 26 grams, depending on the machine, the roast of the coffee and the type of drink they’re making.Machines with automatic frothers have programs that allow you to froth milk or make a cappuccino at the touch of a button. A perfect all-purpose coffee machine The coffee machine will integrate perfectly into your kitchen, measuring just 45 cm.

The easy-to-fill hopper on top grinds beans for the freshest coffee, and the machine produced some of the best-tasting coffee during testing. When she’s not writing about the newest gadgets and gizmos for your home and garden, you’ll find her cooking, running and exploring London’s foodie hotspots – or trying to make friends with every dog she passes. Though their functionality can differ slightly, all pod coffee machines make single-serve coffees from ground beans that are sealed inside pods or capsules; these work similarly to packed grounds in an espresso coffee machine. In a bid to find the best, our coffee aficionado poured a series of single and double espressos, judging each shot on the thickness and colour of its crema (it should be a cosy chestnut colour and last until the final sip), temperature (between 60 and 75°C is optimal) and volume of liquid coffee. Grind manufactures its own compostable coffee pods (although the machine is also compatible with Nespresso pods) and provides free repairs on this machine for two years from purchase, so although it’s expensive, it’s a more sustainable choice that’s built to last. It’s stylish, won’t take up too much space, and its controls are easy to use without having to refer to the manual. If you’re looking for a professional barista style drink at home, we would highly recommend choosing a machine with a steam wand. We are certainly not quite barista level, but we found we were able to create fantastic coffees on this machine – wowing ourselves and passing visitors. Our tester was enjoying their espresso just 41 seconds after switching it on, but they bemoaned not being able to tweak the two drink sizes, especially as the double shot preset poured nearly 50ml more volume than promised! For the coffee connoisseur, the Sage Creatista range offers the ultimate in-home barista experience allowing you to create latte art recipes at home.
