About this deal

So while I love this book for the lessons it teaches, and for the final page show a reunited family, it also will cause a lot of unanswerable questions and is not exactly ideal bedtime fare. And then there's the boy in the suit with the bright white sneakers; Milo imagines him arriving home to a castle with a drawbridge and a butler.

But when the little boy gets off at the same stop and joins the same queue as him, Milo realises that you can’t judge by appearances and that we are all more alike than we are different: both boys are visiting their mothers in prison. There’s the wedding-dressed woman with a little dog peeking out of her handbag; Milo imagines her in a grand cathedral ceremony. We don't KNOW why his Mum is in jail, she's smiling and he's happy to see her, and it's going to cause ANY child to question their flummoxed parents. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. But when the little boy gets off at the same stop and joins the same queue as him, Milo realises that you can't judge by appearances and that we are all more alike than we are different: both boys are visiting their mothers in prison. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! For most readers though, seeing a 'Mum' character in orange and meeting their small child behind a table, watched my guards with holsters. Tip to parents: if you aren't prepared to talk to your child about jail and visiting family there, this may not suit your picture book needs.

This poignant, thought-provoking story speaks volumes for how art can shift one’s perspectives and enable an imaginative alternative to what is . Award winning team Matt De La Peña and Matt Robinson of Last Stop on Market Street have created an outstanding picture book recommended for readers of all ages. It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you.

It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. With the same combination of wide-eyed observation and suspenseful buildup to a socially conscious revelation that readers cherished in this duo's award-winning Last Stop on Market Street (2015), this picture book offers a child's view of the impacts of incarceration on families. And then there’s the boy in the suit with the bright white sneakers; Milo imagines him arriving home to a castle with a drawbridge and a butler. She looked at how Milo had drawn the characters at the start of the train journey and how he’d re-drawn them at the end.Milo’s drawings help him understand the world in ways that just talking may not, echoing the value of art therapy for children in processing difficult experiences, as well as reminding us of the value of drawing as expression for everyone. A hugely affecting picture book about not judging people by appearances and a rare children’s book that tackles the experience of being a child with a parent in prison, Matt de la Peña and Christian Robinson’s beautiful story is both wise and accessible.

His story respects young readers by incorporating their complex interior worlds and the observant ways they attend to issues of class . Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling.

The team behind the Newbery Medal winner and Caldecott Honor book Last Stop on Market Street and the award-winning New York Times bestseller Carmela Full of Wishes once again delivers a poignant and timely children’s book that’s sure to become an instant classic.
