Bollinger has a reputation for producing muscular champagnes with body, depth and power, and is today considered one of the "Great" Champagne houses. The House owns an impressive 178 hectares of vineyards, of which 85% are Grand Cru and Premier Cru vines. I don't drink Champagne/Prosecco/Cava/Bubbly/whatever to try to be 'posh' or 'snobby', I really do enjoy drinking and enjoying it and like most things, I have my favourites! On the nose: A beautiful aromatic complexity; ripe fruit and spicy aromas; hints of roasted apples, apple compote and peaches. PN VZ16 is the second interpretation in a new series that will be released every year, always with a focus on one of Bollinger’s Pinot Noir crus.

Champagnes from a single vintage are labelled with the year reference and with the description Millésimé. The palate has a flinty austeritywith Braeburn apple, white pepper and subtle spice followed by yeasty richnessand a brisk finish. Over the years the vineyard holdings have been steadily increased with the largest expansion taking place under the stewardship of the legendary Mme Lily Bollinger.Another singularity are the reserve wines which are aged in magnums under cork for many years to create outstanding wines in the unique Bollinger style. The most significant period of its history was from 1941 to 1977, the tenure of Madame“Lilly” Bollinger, who expanded production significantly and was ahead of her time in travelling the world to promote the brand. Its durability and resistance to spring frosts make the Marne Valley, a notorious frost pocket, its natural home. It produces lighter, fresher wines than those from Burgundy and gives finesse, fruit and elegance to the final blend.
