Description
Warhammer 40,000: Sisters of Battle is another good example that Marvel’s giving the Warhammer series the attention it deserves. A squad of Adepta Sororitas, led by CANONESS VERIDYAN arrive on planet Siscia to retrieve a lost Inquisitorial acolyte and put down a heretical uprising. But there are also nuns — very, very violent nuns — and this week those fightin’ nuns get their own comic book. They dress in black armor with red accents and, like all Sisters of Battle, have a preference for flamethrowers. The grimdark is heavy and there’s very little respite in a world where war is cherished and death is constant.
He has a degree in Politics and a Master’s in International Journalism, but failed his cycling proficiency test twice. GrØnbekk opens the issue with a man in cobbled together armor throwing what appear to be religious priests off a very high ledge. Recounting various adventures of the incredibly old and angry-looking Chapter Master of the Ultramarines, that series landed pretty well, all told – clearly well enough for Marvel and GW to green-light further projects, in any case. We can’t wait for the first issue of Marvel’s Sisters of Battle comic series to arrive on August 18th.It IS disappointing that they would go with another Imperium-based series when there are so many other interesting ends of the galaxy, including Eldar, Squats, and Space Orks.
It could be just the thing to bring more women into the hobby, and I imagine that’s why the Sisters have featured so prominently over the last two years. It gives us the next chapter for that world in the hands of Marvel comics and shows they're willing to shake up the formula a bit with each new series.Over the years they’ve become the poster boys for an assortment of millennia-long attempted counter-genocides. And while it does feel like a healthy knowledge of the Warhammer universe and its characters would make this a richer reading experience, there’s still enough here to scratch that violent war-loving itch. Despite the billions of mortal soldiers prosecuting that war, the camera more often than not lingers on the Space Marines. Even the somewhat tawdry alternate cover featuring art borrowed from John Blanche’s second edition sourcebook, with the Canonness proudly presenting her glistening, four-inch, ceramite and adamantine heels to the camera … it’s fine.
Snappily titled ‘Sisters of Battle’, the series will follow a single squad of righteous Adepta Sororitas warriors as they deploy to the planet Siscia to “retrieve a lost Inquisitorial acolyte and put down a heretical uprising”, according to Marvel. When not pressing buttons at Wargamer HQ, you can often find him impatiently painting miniatures; half-finishing strategy board games against himself; or drinking lager in the bath with a Horus Heresy audiobook playing.
What has been refreshing in Marvels approach is that they have assembled teams that work extremely well with each other, producing two outstanding stories that ease new readers in.
