Description

The story of how she had been trapped, for 10 years, in a circle of sexual abuse by her mother and others in a family paedophile ring became a best-seller.

She went to the graveside, joined in the family display of grief, then while the others went on to the wake, she went back home alone and sat on the bed where she had been raped so many times. Dana Fowley was born in Edinburgh and despite her appalling childhood, has grown into a corageous and determined woman. She doesn't feel his loss as much as that of her mother because he wasn't part of her life for long. But she claims she was targeted again in 2015 and reported the rapes to cops four years later - but says she’s disappointed at the apparent lack of action. His wife did not participate but she offered no protection to her granddaughter and Fowley always suspected she knew.

We complain so often about the trivial things in our lives that annoy us or get us down, but having read Dana's story of her family's cruellest of betrayals, I say that many such issues significantly pale in comparison. This book is based on dana fowley's past experiences when she was sexually assaulted at the age of 5. What an amazing woman Dana is and I can only hope she finds true peace in her life along with her sister. Yet the question that went unasked in the resulting media furore was why, throughout all those desperate years, no one detected any sign of her torment or made a move to protect Dana and her sister Heather. Dana was sexually abused between the ages of five and 17 in a twisted campaign orchestrated by her warped mum Caroline Dunsmore.I read it as a 13 year old and I think it's hard to formulate an opinion (especially because I haven't been through it myself) beyond: I enjoyed it. The thing that stays with me after reading this book is that her mother, whether or not she has special needs just let things happen and even involved herself in it. Like many other victims, Dana presumed that, had she told a guidance teacher, they would think her dirty and blame her.

The 41-year-old claims she knows the identities of at least 10 men who have raped her who are still roaming the streets. Born in a rough area in Scotland, her ordeal began when she was 5 years - and her fear carried on into her adulthood. But she is still battling illness and the physical legacy of childhood brutality - and says a system that waits for children to speak up is condemned to fail most of them. But it appears that none of the primaries and secondaries, or the special school Heather attended, ever suspected anything was wrong. DANA Fowley, who waived her right to anonymity, suffered at the hands of her grandad, mum and up to 15 men who abused her and her sister for more than 12 years. I will finish this book as I know the authoress bravely fights back and she deserves her story to be read - but it's not going to be an easy book to read. That was surely not some kind of catastrophic coincidence, stars lining up in the worst possible formation to blight Dana and Heather Fowley's lives. I think it's disgraceful, she has been to jail and now she's going to come out and get married and be happy.

The remarkable thing, the redemptive thing, about her story is how undamaged her capacity for love seems to be.per cent of professionals claimed they had gained knowledge, and more than half the 4,723 children involved said they now had a better understanding of sexual exploitation risks. She will be out someday soon and as many people as possible need to know about how these families behave. She smiles when I ask if she ever worries she'll subconsciously self-destruct and ruin her relationship with Paul. The woman who had subjected Dana and her sister to a lifetime of horror was sentenced to twelve years in prison. Dana Fowley is surprisingly a woman of standing, I say surprisingly because her childhood was one in which no adult let alone child should ever go through.
