Sometimes she has a truly valuable nugget for you, but most of the time, it's safe (and maybe better) to ignore. How to stop being a nice girl so we are able to climb the ladder in the organizations and even get the corner office? Therefore, if you want to be a person that gets ahead, you’ll have to learn how to balance the tactical with the strategic. Each of these questions relates to one of seven categories: 1) how you act 2) think 3) work 4) play 5) look 6) sound 7) market. For every professional woman who wants to get ahead - but feels she is at an impasse - NICE GIRLS DON'T GET THE CORNER OFFICE comes to the rescue.

Like jumping into a lake much colder than the tepid waters you were expecting, Nice Girls startles you with realization, while you emerge more refreshed because of it.There is an expectation from colleagues, friends and children that a woman can drop all she is doing to pay attention to someone else. It was a bit eye-opening on female behaviors that I've always known, but never really put in the forefront of my subconscious. Not only do women have to be conscious of when they smile but they also need to be conscious of what they wear.

This is the first book I read from the bibliography of Anne Kreamer's It's Always Personal: Navigating Emotion in the New Workplace, and I found it much more skills-based and practical. After reading through this book (which doesn't take long as you can easily skip over irrelevant sections), I have realized that I actually am making a bunch of 'mistakes' at work that are not benefiting my career. I mean, imagine if a female politician celebrated her victory over her opponent by raising her fist and violently punching the air.We certainly cannot act like men because we aren't men but we can find that balance that I find myself craving. This book clearly give specific examples how to overcome various obstacles from "apologizing too much" to "not dressing the part".
